49ers to retire Jerry Rice's #80 on Monday night..

The San Francisco 49ers will retire new Hall of Famer Jerry Rice's No. 80 jersey during their home opener Monday night against the Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints.

Rice will be honored during halftime. He also will be inducted Saturday into the Edward J. DeBartolo, Sr. 49ers Hall of Fame for his outstanding achievements and contributions to the organization.

Rice will serve as an honorary team captain before Monday's game, when he will be formally presented with his Pro Football Hall of Fame ring from hall executive director Steve Perry.

2. Gonna be tough on SF fans to be reminded of how far they've fallen from their glory days...
...even this year's mediocre Saints will throttle the niner's.

7. Notice Jerry has the ball gripped firmly in his hand.

Most unlike the actions of the fumble fingered Calvin Johnson...he could take some lessons from Rice on how to complete a catch.

Here's the clip of that record setting catch by Rice. Starting at about the 2:00 mark. Rice makes the catch, goes down in the end zone and never once loses the ball. Again, Johnson could learn something..

5. That's the nicest thing the 49ers have done for him since they kicked him out.
Jerry was kind enough to fire up the Seahawks for their game last week against some team I forgot.
