Is anyone else pleased by how well Michael Vick is doing?
Yesterday, 3 touchdown passes, 1 run for a touchdown. He's currently *third* behind Jay Cutler and Peyton Manning with a 110.2 Quarterback rating, beating out both Drew Brees and Tom Brady.

I think it's great!

16. Throwing touchdown passes is redemption, yes.
Edited on Mon Sep-27-10 11:34 AM by kenny blankenship
If Russ Feingold, the only Democrat to get a donation from me this season besides Alan Grayson, were revealed to be an animal torturer, a sadistic piece of shit, I would curse every dollar I'd given him, I'd retract and beg forgiveness for every nice thing I'd ever said about him, feeling an unending shame about having ever associated myself with him even if others forgave me for being fooled by him, and I would shun Russ Feingold for the rest of my life. Unless of course he started throwing touchdown passes. That would be unquestionable proof of his spiritual regeneration.

Edited on Mon Sep-27-10 11:24 AM by hlthe2b
That he gets a second chance is immaterial to me. The key point is that many of his dogs were not so fortunate and died horribly cruel deaths at his hands. Sick sense of priorities some have, but as long as YOU are entertained, I guess that's all that matters. :eyes:

18. IMO that is one characteristic that will never change in Vick.
He probably has other issues that do not reflect well on his character. And I will never support the scumbag in any of his endeavors.

It's bad enough when one hurts women or children which would had sent him to prison probably longer. But animals are essentially defenseless and powerless to speak for themselves. Vick should had suffered more and been banned for life from football.

22. Thank you...the dogs are what matters....
who give a flying f*&% about this sociopath, who got his jollies from torturing innocent creatures. I think he is vile and not worthy of anyone's respect. For someone to only be concerned about his sports prowess as if it were some sort wonderful virtue is disgusting.

I am a major sports fan, but it is bad enough when we make these sports figures so important in our lives that we begin to idolize them. When we take someone without compassion, who has proven his violent tendencies and make him a hero, says a lot about the person who idolizes this bastard. And it's not pretty.

To the OP...you have every right to idolized whom you please; and if this is what makes you happy...well..good luck with that.

that sounds like a fan idolizing a sports figure to me...

He should have not been allowed back in football...for just this reason. I realize he did his time as the law required...but the football league should have banned him for his behavior.

I guess Vick should enjoy whatever good comes his way because according to most world religions he's earned some bad f*ckin'karma (or whatever verbiage you choose). I choose to believe he's got whatever harm he's done coming back at him at least x3.

The only thing he seems capable of leading lately is the on field after-game prayer.
Hasselbeck has no problems making on-field decisions...The problem is they are BAD decisions. He sucks, Vick shines.

Vick has paid his dues required by the justice system. Now he has a chance to redeem himself as a great quarterback. Let him have that chance.

31. We have a criminal justice system in this nation
Vick served his time, performed community service. His sentence is completed.
If you want to be un christian in your blind hared, feel free.

It is not up to you to decide on his salvation, guilt or innocence. It is not up to me either. but the man had been tried, convicted and served his time.

If he fails again, hit him twice as hard in COURT. but for now, he is turning his life around. That is a good thing.

36. Do you think they die a painless death?
Or fish that are caught? Or animals killed for their fur? Or animals that are hunted.

Look, I'm an ethical vegetarian. What he did to those dogs is horrible. But the irony of the fact that meat eaters went nuts because they were dogs but took NO steps to analyze what they consume on a daily basis doesn't escape me. If I can not "boycott" by brothers because they hunt and fish, I can surely give Vick a second chance. Or at least not boycott the NFL or hope that he dies a painful death.

54. Please
If you were one of fifty people in the world who could do what you do, and close to the top of that fifty, you'd work in your field again, even if you were barred from performing particular kinds of tasks (as fraud convictions will do in some financial settings).

Justice was applied equally, and "justice" doesn't have anything to do with being barred from working after you've served your time. The real story is that many people here don't think the penalties for Vick's crime are severe enough. Fine. Work to change the law. I have no problem with people facing justice, serving their time, and then returning to their lives. That's justice, not this bizarre perpetual retribution that so many here desire, a real twisted version of what constitutes justice.

The only hypocrisy is among people who talk about justice but really want hellfire and damnation, a retrograde Christian nonsense. I don't idolize Vick, and I don't even like the Eagles, but I like the idea that people can make their lives again after a criminal conviction. Indeed, it's one of the essential characteristics of liberalism that's attractive to me. Half the people on this board treat criminal issues in ways that are really pre-Enlightenment. Punish punish punish forever! It's pathetic.

59. Where exactly did I say that?
Actually, the most direct opinion I made about it was that I found what he did to those dogs horrible. Hardly the same as OK, in my mind.

I'm fine with giving someone a second chance who has paid the price society says they should pay. I'm fine with assuming that he has changed his life around as he says he has. I'm fine with him being able to do what he does best after doing the things in the last two sentences. I kind of thought those were progressive ideals. Apparently when it comes to dogs, progressive ideals just go down the shitter.

The other more indirect opinion I made about it was that I find it ironic that those that kill animals for their food don't even bat an eyelash about those animals but are willing to damn someone to eternal damnation for killing dogs.

None of that should lead one to think I am okay with dog fighting.
