Yawn. Phillies win fourth straight NL East title.

The Phillies clinched their fourth consecutive National League East championship Monday night with an 8-0 victory over the Nationals at Nationals Park. They also clinched the league's best record because they won their 94th game and win tiebreakers against the Padres and Giants. That means the Phillies will have the opportunity to play an eight-day NL Division Series beginning Oct. 6. That could be a huge advantage for the Phillies, who would have the opportunity to pitch Halladay, Cole Hamels and Roy Oswalt -- the Big Three -- on normal rest throughout the series.

With H2O as the starters, the Phils are going to be tough to beat this year.

2. Congrats. I told a Phillies friend on FB last night

that if Roy Halladay doesn't win the NL Cy Young something is really wrong. That was one masterful performance last night, only the perfect game was better..
AND after watching how awful in person was Oswalt in his first start in DC, I am more than a little surprised how well he's doing now. I would definitely consider Philadelphia the favorites to win it all.

4. You know, I would have been happy last year, but since they blew it against
Satan last year, they have been on my s**t list...don't think Satan will make the WS this year, but if they do, then maybe the Phillies can redeem themselves in my eyes.

6. They didn't blow it.
The Yankees just had better pitching. Not this year.

13. Why should they have won game 2?
Edited on Tue Sep-28-10 09:01 PM by MrSlayer
Pedro pitched well but gave up two homers. Burnett shut the Phils down at the plate, they only managed one measly run.

If they blew any game it would be game 4. They got jobbed by the ump during Damon's now infamous at bat which led to the so-called "mad dash" and Lidge promptly disintegrated as he had done all year. The game was only tied when he entered but he did melt down.

5. I honestly thought the Nationals would make a late season run at it.
Yeah, not really.

11. For a team that had it's 1-4 hitters miss 330 (out of 648) games
and the opening day starter miss more than 10 starts, to not yet be eliminated from winning the toughest division in baseball with less than a week to go isn't so bad. I'm writing this now because by the end of the night, they will be officially done.
