2. It'll be tough..
seems like most people consider the Phillies the best team in baseball, but with the Giants pitching, they can beat anybody.

24. Could be duel no-hitters with those two.
Should be a great match-up.

6. Not impressed with the Giants
Outside of Lincecum they got lots of help from the Braves in winning that series . And you will have to score more than 3 runs to win a game I think.

7. That's the way they've been winning all year
great pitching (best team ERA in MLB), average but often clutch hitting, solid defense (tied for the best fielding % in MLB) and taking advantage of the breaks. A 3-2 win counts every bit as much as an 8-1 victory.

Their starting pitching allowed the Braves but 3 ER in 29 innings. Lincecum and Sanchez posted the top two strikeout performances in Giants playoff history. They're much more than Tim or they wouldn't be in the NLCS..

The Giants aren't looking for style points. They're just looking to win.

I'm sure they'll be a big underdog against Philadelphia, but considering they're one of only 4 teams remaining, I think they should be given some credit..

8. Oh they definitely belong in the NLCS
but I really don't see them beating Philly more than once. What I saw agaisnt Cinci was QUITE impressive..and they weren't even hitting as well as they usually do.
But I watched them play over the weekend and I really thought they would lose that Sunday game to the Braves, it was a nice effort like last night. Sanchez though...I think a good hitting team might rough him up though..He came very close to getting into big trouble a number of times....

13. You could say the Reds
helped out the Phillies in game 2. I mean if you feel the Braves helped the Giants. That was the game the Reds got some hits and runs early on Oswalt but blew the lead in the 7th were the Reds made a few critical errors and went though 3 pitchers. You could give credit to the Phillies but the Reds made more than 1 error.

I didn't see any other games after that in this series because I was watching football(I think).

14. In that ONE game yes
However I believe that the Giants got fairly lucky in at least THREE of their games. Game 1 Game 3 especially. Some really bad calls helped the Giants too. I don't have anything agaisnt the Giants but I think they were somewhat lucky in their victories. That series was much more competitive than 3-1 indicates. I watched all the Phillies Reds series. Outside of the first four innings of game 2, the Reds weren't in that series at ALL.

11. We'll just have to see what happens.
the Phillies are an imposing team, but they're not unbeatable. If I remember correctly the Giants split the season series with them. Knocking around Halladay in SF and really should have had a sweep in that series, but they blew one game in the 9th..

15. In six games against Philly, S.F. scored 27 runs
Yes, they split the series, 3-3. Two losses in Philly and two wins at AT&T. Sanchez beat Halliday, Wellmeyer beat Moyer, and Sanchez beat Hamels. Lincecum gave up 2 ERs over 8.1 innings in a no-decision on April 28th in S.F. (actually a blown save by Wilson). The other losses were by Zito and Cain in Philly -- Cain gave up 5 runs over 6 innings, but three of those were unearned.

Combined runs scored for those six games: SF: 27, Philly 29.

Giants dodged many bullets thanks to a few (albiet major) blown calls and several Atlanta errors in the NLDS as well-documented. There's no guarantee they'll get those in Philadelphia. Uribe -- WTF? He looked aweful in many at bats. Makes me want to see Renteria (he's hit well against Philadelphia this year -- I think we'll see him get some starts).

We got four pitchers you can hand the start to with complete confidence. And a Rookie-of-the-Year catcher in total control behind homeplate. That's good. But another hot hitter or two in the line-up (other than Posey) are desparately needed.

22. As a neutral observer
Both teams have fine pitching and can catch ther ball. But the Phillies have more offense so this neutral observer gives them the (slight) edge. Phillies in 7. But I gotta say that the opening night matchup of Lincecum and Halladay sure looks like it may be a fun one to watch.

23. I'm sure MLB experts (which I am far from) will correct me
I agree with your analysis and I think 1-8, the Phillies have the best batting lineup in the NL. Very tough from top to bottom. I'd say in the entire MLB but they got DH in the AL so the Yankees or somebody probably have the best batting lineup. Plus I barely pay attention to anything that goes on in the AL.
