I hate the Yankees, but...
Just ask the dignitaries sitting in the front row, next to the camera well beside the Rangers’ dugout: former President George W. Bush and Nolan Ryan, one of the team’s new owners, who stewed, arms folded, as the game unraveled merely a few feet away. It all must have looked so painfully familiar to Bush, a former managing partner and minority owner. Their glory years of the 1990s, punctuated by three division titles, ended each time with first-round losses to the Yankees, who have now won 10 straight playoff games against Texas.

...that's pretty awesome. :)

2. What's awesome about it?
Steinbrenner was pardoned by Reagan after he had been convicted of making illegal campaign contributions to Nixon...that doesn't sound awesome to me. The top beneficiary of Steinbrenner's campaign donations since 1989 is the Republican Party of Florida, third most is the RNC...that doesn't sound awesome either.

As for baseball..Steinbrenner is almost single handedly responsible for ruining MLB's salary structure...I don't see any awesomeness there either.

The Rangers just collapsed. Starting with manager Ron Washington who brought in 40 year old reliever Darren Oliver in the top of the eighth. Of course, he promptly threw fuel on the fire by walking guys. Then in the bottom of the inning, Kinsler, representing the potential tying run, gets himself picked off first. It was a pathetic performance.

5. Thanks mad..
but we've always agreed on this Yankee BS. It's easy to crack on the Rangers because of Bush, but many of those same people are forgetting just what George Steinbrenner was all about..

4. Not so much.
The Rangers fans, while they are certainly more conservative than the Yankees fans, or so I surmise, are the ones that matter, IMO. Not the big wigs. Among the Rangers fans, there are certainly plenty of good Democrats, progressives, and generally good people. It would be nice for them to see their team win once in a while. As a life long Brewers fan, I can identify with them. I can also share my envy of Yankees fans, and my thought that they have seen their team win plenty of times already.

Screw the pols and the owners. Give the fans a break.

6. Deep down,
everyone loves the NY Yankees. Our greatest spiritual potential, as human beings, is to bring forth our Inner Yankee Fan. This is the part of our being that survives death, and joins with the Universal Force. (In fact, a correct reading of the Old Testacle indicates that the "fall from grace" was when Adam & Eve began to think that they actually were Red Sox fans.)
