Missouri Vs. Nebraska: Big 12 collision ahead
Edited on Tue Oct-26-10 05:21 AM by SpiralHawk
Okay, Missouri is now 7-0 (ranked #6 BCS) and last Saturday knocked off the #1 ranked Oklahoma Sooners. They journey to Lincoln this coming Saturday to meet the Huskers (6-1 ranked #14 BCS).

This game will likely decide who wins the Big 12 North

Husker freshman quarterback Taylor Martinez, and Missouri's Blaine Gabbert, are among the 16 semifinalists for the Davey O'Brien Award for the nation's top quarterback.

Meanwhile, Martinez (aka T Magic), coming off a career day against Oklahoma State, was named the Walter Camp Foundation national offensive player of the week

The kid is a lot of fun to watch...

1. I can hardly wait for this game
As a long-suffering -- REALLY long-suffering -- Missouri fan, I am excited about this game.

It looks like Mizzou has many good, big, physical players. They pretty much shut off the Oklahoma ground game last Saturday. This will be another hard-fought game on the line.

The Tigers also have to cut down on the mistakes. They played a little sloppy last week. If they can step it up one more notch they will justifiably be one of the best teams in the country.

Actually, trash talking aside, I expect a really great game, with both teams gaining strength and momentum heading into it. Whoever wins, it should be some damn good football.

3. Missouri loses key defender
"Starting nose tackle Dominique Hamilton will be sidelined for the rest of the season with a broken ankle. Hamilton suffered the injury late in the first quarter Saturday when a double-team block pushed the junior to the bottom of a pile," reports Dave Matter of The Columbia (Mo.) Daily Tribune.

4. Nebraska's Taylor Martinez named Player of the Week
Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez, coming off a career day against Oklahoma State, was named the Walter Camp Foundation national offensive player of the week.

The redshirt freshman had 435 yards in total offense in NU’s 51-41 win against the No. 17 Cowboys. He completed 23 of 35 passes for career highs of 323 yards and five touchdowns.

He set NU freshman records for completions, yards and TD passes.

Martinez added 112 yards rushing to become the first quarterback in NU history to throw for at least 300 yards and rush for at least 100 in the same game.

His 435 yards of total offense rank third on Nebraska’s all-time single-game chart.

11. Husker Roy Helu, Jr. sets rushing record - 304 yards

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Roy Helu Jr. couldn't really explain his success. He smiled, laughed and thanked everyone in Nebraska red. When informed that Cornhuskers fans were chanting his name in the closing seconds of Saturday's 31-17 victory over No. 7 Missouri here at Memorial Stadium, Helu seemed genuinely surprised.

"I wish I would have heard it," Helu said.
