Cliff who?...Giants win game one 11-7 |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-27-10 10:36 PM by Upton
6 ER off the previously unhittable Rangers ace. 7 doubles for the Giants. So many heroes. Freddy Sanchez 4 for 5, 3 doubles and 3 RBI. Juan Uribe a big 3 run HR..
So many keep underrating this Giants team and they just continue to shine..

1. The relief pitching has got to be better than it was in the ninth |

I'm celebrating a birthday next week and I'd like to make it with having a heart attack.

I was actually getting worried. They never do anything the easy way..good thing they got those 3 in the eighth.

If a reliever walks off the mound with a lead...job done.

3. People forget that in the last two seasons |
|
Lee has been very mediocre. He was only 14-13 in 2009 and 12-9 in 2010. He was only 4-6 with the rangers. Yes, he has been hot in the post season but the odds eventually catches up with you.
He's a good pitcher but hardly a great pitcher.

And since the Giants don't want Zito, we'll take him too.

and his salary. I'll tell you what...We could use a solid third baseman, maybe we can work out a Zimmerman for Zito trade..

9. Giants are stuck with Zito |
|
unless they agree to pay part of that huge contract. But Barry had some good outings this year -- at one point was the hottest pitcher on the staff. I'd keep the rotation as is.

10. Might as well ask for Strasburg while you are at it.. |
|
Edited on Thu Oct-28-10 11:30 AM by TZ
Zimmerman and Strasburg are the two stars the Nats have. I assure you NEITHER is going anywhere if Mike Rizzo is breathing.... BTW, what happened to your "best third baseman in baseball"...:P On Edit: after watching what the Nats have done to bring Livan Hernandez back to being a pretty good pitcher, I think they could do well with Zito.

12. And we'll throw in Bryce Harper |
|
So it's: Zimmerman, Strasburg and Harper for Barry Zito, and we pick up his salary. That's a deal!!

5. Going into last night.. |
|
Lee, in 8 postseason starts, had a record of 7-0 with an ERA of 1.26...that ranks third in MLB history, behind only Koufax and Mathewson. His strikeout to walk ratio is the best in MLB post season history. This year, previous to last night, in 3 postseason starts, he faced 87 hitters and gave up a total of 2 runs and 3 extra base hits, posting an ERA of under 1.00
You saw what he did to the Rays, you saw what he did to the Yankees. I wouldn't be downplaying Lee's success in the post season nor what the Giants achieved in beating him..

I saw Koufax. There has never been another pitcher as dominant as koufax over a 5 year period. He pitched in spring training close to the age of 60 and he still had the Dodger players shaking their heads and striking out. Also, personally, I'll take Smoltz. I also think Seaver was a better pitcher than Nolan Ryan. Way more consistent.

11. Love the National League! Shut-down pitching. Small ball. |

You know, everything the AL isn't!
Seriously, I enjoyed the game. I'm loving "watching" along my 13-year old nephew, who is from San Fran, and it just the right age to be enjoying his first series!
