Giants’ Jose Guillen Linked to Drug Investigation
Jose Guillen, the San Francisco Giants outfielder, was kept off the team’s postseason roster shortly after federal authorities informed Major League Baseball that he was tied to an investigation into shipments of performance-enhancing drugs, according to several lawyers briefed on the matter.

Guillen, whom the Giants acquired from the Kansas City Royals in mid-August, slumped toward the end of the season. Still, he was expected to be named to the playoff roster, and it came as something of a surprise when he was not.

When the roster moves were announced, the Giants cited problems that Guillen was having with his neck. Manager Bruce Bochy told reporters that Guillen would “agree he’s not 100 percent.” But by that point the Giants had been told of the drug investigation by the commissioner’s office and had been directed to keep Guillen off the roster, the lawyers said.

It is not clear, however, exactly what Bochy knew about baseball’s directive. At his postgame news conference Thursday night, he was asked about the matter and said, “Right now, I don’t have a comment on that.” The team itself, through a spokesman, also declined comment, as did Major League Baseball.

2. It's a good thing they left Guillen off the playoff roster.
Drug issue or not, I'm willing to bet that whoever took his place on the roster has done far more to help the team than Guillen ever would.

Why in the world would they trade for Jose Guillen?

4. Ouch!
I'm willing to bet that the majority of the fans in the vast number of cities he's played were happy to see him go! He certainly didn't add anything to the Giants, who basically made the playoffs despite the acquisition.
