2. RIP, Dandy Don...
Don Meredith, the legendary Dallas Cowboys quarterback and memorable "Monday Night Football" commentator, died Sunday night at the age of 72 in Santa Fe, N.M.

Meredith, who had emphysema and suffered a minor stroke in 2004, died at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, a hospital spokesman told the Dallas Morning News this morning. Meredith's wife Susan and daughter Mary were by his side, according to the family's attorney, Lisa Fine Moses.

"Dandy Don" was the original Dallas Cowboy, signing a contract Nov. 28, 1959, two months before the team was admitted to the NFL and, as the Morning News points out, played his home high school, college and professional football games within 100 miles of Dallas -- a fact that was audible in his Texas twang on "MNF."

3. A special SpiralHawk wing wigwag to honor the Dandy dude
I was a NY Giants fan back in the days when he was playing, but he was a great player and a likable man. Go in peace, DM.

4. I just saw a wonderful piece on Dandy Don on ESPN
They needed to show more of his antics with Howard Cosell. They were quite the duo with Frank Gifford as the straight guy. Rest in Peace Don Meredith. What a classy guy!!

5. I was there in those end zone seats at the NFL Championship on Jan.1, 1967.
"Meredith found tight end Pettis Norman on third down to bring Dallas back to the two-yard line, but a questionable play call by Meredith on fourth down won the game for the Packers. In a quarterback rollout, Meredith threw the ball under heavy pressure, and Green Bay's Tom Brown intercepted the pass in the end zone as the intended receiver, Hayes, was surrounded by Packers defenders."

Don Meredith was the second starting quarterback for the Cowboys after Eddie LeBaron in 1960-1962. He was given tremendous attention by Dallas fans who loved him dearly. Me too.
