1. From Buster Olney, more potential activity from the Diamondbacks
"Good progress being made by D-backs to bring J.J. Putz in as potential closer."

3. Any downsides to Marcum for the Brewers?
And what do the Orioles want with a strike-out machine who hits below the Mendoza line?

4. the Orioles want his 30+ home runs
he may only get 100 hits a season, but I think they're drooling at the notion of how many of those 100 hits will be home runs in tiny Camden Yards.

6. I guess he regressed
Edited on Mon Dec-06-10 04:05 PM by JonLP24
I didn't have cable this year so the only thing I remember was him hitting monster home runs in 2009. Batting average was higher though not great at all.

7. Sources: Dodgers eye Prince Fielder
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Los Angeles Dodgers are actively involved in discussions on a possible three-player deal with the Milwaukee Brewers that would bring slugging first baseman Prince Fielder to Los Angeles in exchange for Dodgers first baseman James Loney and embattled closer Jonathan Broxton, according to multiple sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Fielder, 26, has averaged 40 home runs over the past four seasons -- a dozen more than any player hit for the Dodgers in 2010 -- and 111 RBIs. He led the National League with 141 RBIs in 2009. He also has a career on-base percentage of .385 and led the NL with 114 walks in 2010.

The Dodgers previously have been reluctant to move Loney, primarily because there is no other everyday first baseman in the organization who is close to being ready for the majors. Loney also is a potential Gold Glove winner defensively, but the knock against Loney has always been that he doesn't hit for the power the front office and coaching staff have long believed him to be capable of producing.

The Chicago Cubs have also expressed interest in Loney, according to ESPNChicago.com's Bruce Levine.

11. Rockies get Ty Wiggington
The Colorado Rockies agreed to a two-year, $7.5 million contract with free agent Ty Wigginton, a source familiar with the negotiations said.

The agreement is pending a physical, the source said.

The Rockies have been looking for a versatile right-handed bat to split time at first base with Todd Helton and also play some at third base and possibly in the outfield.

They've also talked to representatives of free agent Jorge Cantu at these winter meetings.

But on Monday, they began closing in on a deal with the 33-year-old Wigginton, who spent the past two years with the Orioles.

He hit 22 HRs, but most of them were before the All-Star game and he then disappeared the rest of the season for the Orioles.
