+++ NFL Week 14 Picks +++
Three weeks left. PRETZEL and RagAss made big moves to solidify their leads. TIme for big risk taking (just ask Goblinmonger, Mr. 13-1 last week). New England / Chicago: Super Bowl Preview? We'll find out just how good that Chicago defense is. Good friggin' luck.

Note on the San Diego / Kansas City game: Last available point spread was San Diego -7, but that was before the Cassel apendectomy Wednesday. Officially there's no spread on this game until there's word on the Chiefs starting QBs status. So that's the way we'll play it.

Favorite Spread Underdog (Home team in CAPS)

JACKSONVILLE / 4 / Oakland

PITTSBURGH / 8.5 / Cincinnati

New England / 3 / CHICAGO

BUFFALO / 1 / Cleveland

NY Giants / 2.5 / MINNESOTA

NEW ORLEANS / 9 / St. Louis

SAN FRANCISCO / 5.5 / Seattle

NY JETS / 5.5 / Miami

Denver / 5.5 / ARIZONA

SAN DIEGO / OFF / Kansas City

2. I need clarification on Chiefs/Chargers
Are we waiting for an official word on Cassell before we can pick that game? Or are we picking the game as if the spread was even? Or are we playing San Diego favored at 7?

Yahoo!(they never lied to me before) says he is extremely doubtful and the Chiefs signed Tyler Palco, likely to back-up Brodie Croyle who is taking first team snaps.

6. John Skelton is the likely starter for Arizona at QB
Which may actually help their chances. Stronger arm than Max Hall and there is something Arizona liked about him in the draft. They traded a 6th and Bryant McFadden to Pittsburgh to move up in the 5th round to draft him.

OK moving on to picks.

Oakland
Pittsburgh
Chicago
Cleveland
NY Giants
Green Bay
Carolina
Tampa Bay
St. Louis
San Francisco
NY Jets
Arizona
San Diego
Philadelphia
Baltimore

9. Didn't know that
Edited on Thu Dec-09-10 12:06 PM by JonLP24
I have no idea how Troy Smith has played but looking at his numbers, not great. All I have is the MNF game against Arizona where his speed helped him to evade a few sacks. Frustrating.

Anyways I mostly based my pick on the fact San Francisco's pass D is slightly better, they run the ball more than Seattle, and WR Mike Williams is unlikely to play this week. However all this could mean San Francisco wins by 3 and Seattle still covers.

11. Mike Singletary says Alex Smith gives them a better chance of winning...
Says Troy Smith's knowledge of the playbook is really limited and opposing defenses have figured out how to defend his roll-outs and running.

I thought the secondary played horrible against Green Bay last week. And then the secondary coach, Johnnie Lynn, suddenly and mysteriously resigned this week with no official comment why. I'm holding off my picks trying to figure this out.

12. Hey--when I said San Francisco's pass D
Edited on Thu Dec-09-10 12:29 PM by JonLP24
is slightly better than Seattle's I wasn't trying to say San Francisco was in the top 16 or anything like that. In fact both teams are in the bottom 10. :)

That is fascinating about their secondary coach though. I will say Rodgers can make almost any pass D look bad. He is third in YPA with a whopping 8.13.

Yeah I get Singletary's reasoning. it looks like Troy Smith had some success early on but the last 3 games (even Arizona) his numbers were poor.

28. It seems Cleveland can't generate much offense outside of Hillis
Hillis did very well in terms of yardage but the fumble in Bills territory hurt. I can't fault him too much though, he was in the air fighting for extra yardage.

22. WEATHER CHANGE:
It's expected to be a rough day in Chicago -- lot of snow and wind. I'm changing my pick from the Pats to the Bears. Bears have the #2 rush defense in the league. I'll stick with the Giants over the Vikes, with or without Favre, because this game won't be played in the Metrodome.

Couldn't hold on long enough for me to cover. All Oakland had to do was hold Jacksonville to a field goal.

Oh well. Better than I thought I would end up after nearly picking all of the morning games wrong. Congrats to the winners. :toast:
