1. I have to say Farve

Football is a dangerous sport for any position. But the most dangerous position to play in football is quarterback.

On edit-You could probably also argue A.C. Green's streak was more impressive than Ripken's.

2. I don't recall Ripken ever being blindsided by Adewale Ogunleye

3. Favre by a mile
People were actually gunning for Favre - I mean that was the job of most of the Defensive Linemen.

Ripken's streak will never be surpassed. There are a lot of babies in the MLB now. I do feel bad for Ripken's family - I mean he never took a day off during the season??

4. Wow. A football player
who could take an entire week of practice off as opposed to the every day (almost) wear and tear of the baseeball season. Sorry guys, I don't care how "physical" football is 162 games> 16 games. Good lord.

Those of you who say Favre, any of you ever take a sick day? I'm guessing yes.

Not even close in my mind.

5. A football player is probably more likely to receive an injury
that causes him to miss the next game. That is why I voted. Plus Farve plays QB. Most can't even make it through a season without missing a game or two.

6. Despite what people think
Playing shortstop (which he did for most of it) is every bit as atheletic position as QB. You don't think stuff like hamstrings or worse don't occur? Player collisions are pretty common for that position. Leaping and throwing is pretty hard on a body too. How many players get shoulder injuries..the only position more physical is catcher. Also, QB play is controlled, you know when the play starts and stop. With baseball defense you have to be tense and alert all the time, which means your muscles are on edge, which is actually more likely to lead to fatigue and injury..plus no pads to cushion blows in baseball
Sorry 162 games really is much greater. And you have to remember that baseball players will spend more time out on the field during a game as well, timewise.

7. I'm not arguing the short-stop isn't athletic
Or that playing QB is. I'm saying they have to deal with hits all game and while they have padding. The people hitting them usually are around 300 pounds. Tom Brady is in the top 5 in consecutive starts by a QB but he tore two ligaments because someone hit him. Maybe if Farve played some other position, I would say maybe Ripken, but QB? I can't say Ripken just because of the punishment that position receives game-in-and-game out.

10. And I'm saying
That the punishment a QB takes is one 1) Lessened by wearing HELMETS, and pads (or else what is the point) and much more 2)controlled over shorter periods of time.
Football is a more violent game, but to play baseball you need much more stamina...If the amount of games were anywhere close to equal I'd agree with you. But the baseball season is so much longer. AND he didn't have days off in between to heal, like Favre did. Plus you have spring training, and Favre rarely was hit or even participated in much of pre-season.
This is a counter intuitive thing, but the imbalance of length of seasons balances out the violence inherent in football.
I'll ask again...do you know anyone who never took a sick day of anytype from work for 15 years? I don't....

11. Here is Farve in pre-season

Yes he is wearing a helmet but the rates of concussions is much higher for QBs than any other position except for linemen. Linemen receive a lot of concussions, but QB is still higher.

Anyways I get your point and you get mine. We'll have to maybe agree to disagree, I guess.

16. You can't be serious...
You're telling me that a baseball player has as good of chance to get hurt as an NFL QB/

Too funny

9. Ripken
The working word here is "impressive," not "more difficult." 2,632 games is a grind.

12. Other: Glenn Hall's 552 straight games starting as an NHL goalie.
Edited on Tue Dec-14-10 02:35 PM by Forkboy
A position even more difficult than QB or SS, and in an era when goalies wore shitty equipment and no masks.

13. Now this is a good case
Goalies have to deal with people flying towards the net all the time.

17. This is the correct answer.
Ripkin was tough, Favre is super tough, Hall was inhumanly tough.
