Gilbert Arenas to the Magic, Vince Carter to Suns in huge NBA trades

The Orlando Magic capped a blockbuster day of wheeling and dealing by trading one franchise cornerstone for another, sending Rashard Lewis to the Washington Wizards for Gilbert Arenas on Saturday.

That trade followed news of a deal that sent Vince Carter to the Phoenix Suns in a six-player swap that returns Hedo Turkoglu to the Magic.

The Magic also get Jason Richardson and Earl Clark from the Suns in exchange for Carter, Marcin Gortat, Mickael Pietrus, a 2011 first-round pick and cash considerations.

"We needed a little bit more punch," Magic president Otis Smith said. "All those guys coming in have an ability to move the ball. After looking at our team through 25 games, we were missing a little something. I thought change was needed."

1. really confused as to why the Suns would do this

yeah, they have a losing record at 12-13, but it's still really early for them to give up and start rebuilding. The Magic should have a damn good team now. Provided of course the Arenas doesn't bring in more guns to the locker room.

Jason Richardson has been REALLY GOOD for the Suns. He can drain that 3 and slash to the basket. I don't mind getting Carter and Pietrus though. Don't know who Gortat is but if he brings rebounding and interior defense here I'm happy. Something they really, really need.
