Tebow didn't suck. Surprised no one's mentioned that (LOL not really). |
|
8/16, 1 TD, 0 INT
8 Carries for 78 yards
40 Yard TD run
I'd take that performance in my first rookie start any day.

1. The longest TD run by a QB in Broncos history! |
|
He's now on the record books. Ring of honor coming up!

Will be interested seeing how his career shakes out i.e. will he move to tight end?

3. I took a look at the stats |
|
Edited on Sun Dec-19-10 08:42 PM by Jack Rabbit
Tebow: 138 yds passing. Tebow: 78 yards rushing. Total Tebow: 216 yards. Total offense for Denver: 235 yards.
I think that explains why Tebow could look so good while the Broncos lost to a half-ass team like the Raiders, 39-23.
Was anybody else on the field with him?

5. Watched most of the game. |
|
Sorry---but Tebow was 2-12 on 3rd down--- and man I thought he looked slow. and--- still has a terrible throwing motion.
Sure he had the 45 yarder---but the middle was wide open....
He's got a ways to go in mho.

6. After teams start game planning against him |

the middle will not be so "wide open".
I agree with most of your assessment. He was basically at 50% completion percentage and his touchdown pass was one of the flukiest things I've ever seen. Not impressed.
edit: The TD pass itself was rather ill advised, he threw that thing into double coverage. 95% of the time the best thing that can happen to a throw like that is it hitting the ground.

7. That was a lucky TD catch. I watched the game and thought he did decent at best for a rookie |
|

making his first start. The donks did put in some special Teablow plays that gave Oakland some problems in the first half before they adjusted. The Raiders hurt themselves with turnovers and penalties to make the game closer than it should have been. They had more than a 2-1 edge in total yards with 502.

8. Here's a cool stat for Tebow haters to chew on: 27 QB's have won the Heisman. Of those, only TEN |
|
have made a start in their rookie year, and of those ten, only TWO had winning records, Roger Staubach and Doug Flutie. Between them, their rookie record was a staggering 2-0. Here are the top five, and I would add that at this point in his career, Tebow's rating is 120.0 and his TD/INT ratio is 2-0. Not bad.
Behold:
1. Sam Bradford Yr 2010 Record 6-8 Rtg 81.0 TD/INT 17-10 2. Jim Plunkett Yr 1971 Record 6-8 Rtg 68.6 TD/INT 19-16 3. Matt Leinart Yr 2006 Record 4-7 Rtg 74.0 TD/INT 11-12 4. Chris Weinke Yr 2001 Record 1-14 Rtg 62.0 TD/INT 11-19 5. Vinny Testaverde Yr 1987 Record 0-4 Rtg 60.2 TD/INT 5-6

11. That's An Awfully Convenient List |
|
Most of those guys (as well as a lot of Heismann winning QB's) went to teams that were terrible NOT BECAUSE of the guys who were there when they were rookies.
Tebow went to a team that is terrible BECAUSE of the guys that drafted him. So, his numbers are relective of a horrible scheme and terrible strategic decisions on a team that has enough guys that are good enough. IOW, this team is useless not because of minimal talent, but because the concepts are rotten.
So, his situation is completely different than the other guys are your list. Bradford has nobody worth a darn on his team. Testaverde, same thing when he was a rookie. Plunkett, same thing. The other two guys were never going to be good NFL QB's. So, you've provided a list in which 2 of the 3 guys were never any good (which is what i think will end up happening with Tebow), and three guys who were ok once they were on teams that had some decent talent. Just like Denver has now.
