Along with the officials at the game.

2. And the fans. What's that quote from the Onion Sports?
"Philadelphia fans love their teams, just not the actual players on them."

3. Since I am not watching a game, I assume that you are?
and this implies he's not doing well? Or the calls are going against him? MY ESP meter went down long ago.

4. He had no protection, at all, in the pocket
In fact, it wasn't so much a pocket as a death trap.

It was as if the Eagles said to the Vikings, "Here is a quarterback most of the country hates. I'm going to leave a nice lane on the outside open for you to come around and pile-drive him into the ground."

Their fates are so intertwined with his, after all.

8. Because the rest of the Eagles just do not want to go to the Super Bowl, is that your reasoning?

10. He had no protection. I don't like what has been happening to the quarterbacks lately.
That position is far more dangerous than before. I don't like what Vick did in the past but he is a good quarterback.

12. What happened is a crop of young quarterbacks (starting with Vick) started running
Edited on Tue Dec-28-10 11:53 PM by Recursion
So the Favre-era "gentleman's agreement" between QBs and LBs to sack gently became moot.

15. Fran Tarkington used to run. Our new soon to be quarterback Webb is a runner...
I mean, what are they to do? It just looks like they are trying to break their bones out there. Maybe you are right....

26. Are you seriously contending that QBs of old didn't run?
Have you watched any old games.

And you might want to talk to Theisman abouut that "gentleman's agreement" you speak of.

Oh, and to that Favre you mention...I think he got busted pretty hard in his 20 years in the league more than a couple times.

27. I'm talking about the late 90s and the 00s
Not exactly Theismann's time. In fact, Theismann's leg was one of the injuries that made teams think about husbanding their QB a little more, which started the "long arm" arc I'm suggesting we're starting to come out of.

25. Let's not give any credit to a Vikings D-Line
that is pretty stacked with talent. THAT can't possibly be it. No, the O-line of the Eagles didn't want to have a first round bye so they let Vick get hit.

6. Nice seeing Vick get knocked around
committed two turnovers too. And I didn't see anything wrong with the officials. The Eagles and their animal abusing QB just didn't show up.

or Manning.

Then again, running QBs are expected to be more rough and tumble. Still.

been possibly treated differently.

14. That's a good point; I think the age of the heavy-throwing QB is over for a bit
Edited on Tue Dec-28-10 11:55 PM by Recursion
We're seeing lighter, faster guys who trade agility for that big arm. Brady and Manning will probably hold out for a few seasons, but they're already getting injured from the more muscular game linebackers have to play now that the backfield is running again (the rediscovery of the wildcat probably has something to do with this too).

penalties for being too rough. You can tell. They are just slamming these guys.

24. What an utterly classless and misogynist thing to say
The call for increased protection for the players is coming foremost from former players themselves (an entirely male contingency) and the medical community (in no small part, still quite male itself) - yet you choose to spittle forth such utterly predictable pablum because a person with a uterus dared express an opinion that doesn't mesh neatly with your romanticized notions of the gridiron, boys and their balls.

sad

20. Sounds more like butthurt over a rookie's first start
making the dogfighter look bad. And a blitz that they couldn't handle. Because pros would be looking to jeopardize a season.

21. No shit. One team came to play tonight.
The other team seemed extremely disinterested. I almost expected it after the late game drama that unfolded in the last four contests. Football is like that with the ebb and flow. Since now there is nothing to play for, they can rest their starters against the non-playoff bound Cowgirls this week. Depriving yourself of a chance to grab a bye is not a good thing but it's not the end of the world. Onward.
