If what I am hearing in Columbus today is true Jim Tressel is done.
If Jim Tressel knowingly lied about when he knew about the players getting
gifts, selling their championship rings and stuff, and getting free tattoos
April 2010 vs Dec. 2010 ..... and he knowingly played players that by NCAA
rules should not have been on the field then Tressel is done.

Tonight: 7:00 PM Press Conference w/ the A.D., University President, and Coach Tressel :scared:

I hope I am wrong and as fan I like him and over all I have heard from people who have or still
know him that he is a stand up guy but if it is true he will be out of Ohio State tonight.

1. Interesting
If he is gone, Ohio State is still a top recruiting destination but it is still hard to replace a very good coach such as Tressel.

3. 2 game suspension and fine.
I swear he could murder someone and all OSU would do is slap his hands. I'm a Buckeye fan and even I think this is ridiculous. Because the first two games are always non conference cupcakes!

6. He lost me when he quoted W Bush in the presser
Lots of implied I was trying my best to protect the young men from going
down the wrong road so I didn't report the problem when I knew it.

Bottom line Tress said in Dec. 2010 that had just learned about the problems
then and that was a lie.

This whole thing seems to much deeper than Ohio State is letting on
about it.

********

BTW the 2 game suspension is on OSU's end not the NCAA's and they may
go far beyond that.

I am a big Jim Tressel fan but he should have been fired for this ....
not reporting the infractions and playing players who should have been
ruled ineligible to play last season.

This is Christian Jim's 4th major infraction ..... A QB @ Youngstown State,
Clarett, Troy Smith, and now this stuff. :grr:

10. I'd like to see the NCAA come down on them. HARD
Seems like OSU is not particularly inclined to do more than token punishment. Someone is going to have to get seriously hurt before the University does something about this I think. BTW, I now believe EVERYTHING Clarett said about Tressel.

well, Tressel's lies and now his "punishment":eyes: is just one more demonstration as to why so many hate the Buckeyes.

7. No you just hated them because they were always good.
But in this case I think Tressel should have been canned ..... he was
originally supposed to have been @ a book signing tonight for his
new book in which he wrote of God, the bible, and doing the right thing.

8. Eh, it's just a PERCEIVED violation
"We have reported a violation, a perceived violation, that we were having discussions with them (the NCAA) about the best way to handle it," according to E. Gordon Gee.

He knew about the violation, he was contractually obligated to report it, and he didn't say a word. Sometimes perception IS reality.

9. Not Tressel or OSU's finest hour
About the emails Tressel got exposing the problems.

"We get lots of emails and we try to answer them all but sometimes we don't. Lots of them
a nice or asking if we can have a player visit a hospital blah blah blah blah ...
put these emails were different and my first thought was this is serious and what can I do
to help these young men and get them out of harm's way blah blah blah. " rough quotes

11. The players put Tressel in a tough spot.
I can understand him wanting to help his players stay out of trouble (and not JUST for football reasons), and that his first thought was to help these men get out of harm's way, but at some point in the following months the thought "Ah Shit, I have to report this instead of sweeping it under the rug" should have crossed his mind as well. Hell, early reporting last spring might have cost his players fewer games during last year's season.

14. I have always been a big Tressel fan but .....
.... Jim lied about what he knew and when he knew it and played
players that should not have been eligible to play if Tressel had reported
what he knew ..... And he could have still helped the players too .....
helping the players and doing the right thing was not mutually exclusive.

BTW Tressel quoting W bush in his presser didn't win any love from me.

16. i have been a few feet from him and he said hi and shook my hand
but I have met several of his star players who helped out in the afternoons
@ a summer day camp for kids @ OSU ...... my son played pick up football
and basketball games w/ them and I can never repay their kindness to my
son and overall (except for one) they were really nice guys ...... Santonio Homes
and Donte Whitner used to call him "White Chocolate" and would have him
throw the football as the two played a little one on one ..... all in fun but
but to a 11 year old boy it was pretty special .... and not bad for dad to watch too.

Again I am Tressel fan but right now I am very sad.

18. Just a simple point. The media gets out of hand.
Ferentz was crucified two months ago over the Rhabdo incident. And mostly without a dose of fact. I've met the man. So it was a lot easier to dismiss the bulk of it as bullshit. Despite your misgivings at the moment, I'd give it a little while. It may surprise you. And that shit coming from the Michigan fans.. "well, I've been down so goddamn long, that it looks like up to me."

13. I have never liked Tressel - and it's NOT because he has beat Michigan so often
I always thought he seemed a little smarmy. He's had problems everywhere he's gone and people just turn a blind eye to it!

I don't care if Terrelle Pryor ends up going 4-0 against Michigan. I don't. It's better than having him on our team. Did you read his latest Tweet? All about God, just like Tressel's book.

All about the egregiousness of Michigan's program becoming a mess because they ran over on practice time.

20. Jim Tressel would have to be caught on tape kicking puppies for him to get fired.
That being said, I didn't elect him to be Pope, he just acts like that on his own. I want him to beat that team up North, win football games and not break anything. I think it is bonus points that he is also not a prick or a tool (see also: Lane Kiffin, Dick-Rod, Les Miles, Nick Saban, the Hairdresser, et. al).

In fairness, coaches cannot be expected to be the babysitter of 100 young men, of which, many have home issues or ego issues. Also, this stuff these kids sold was their property. They are just stupid for selling it now, rather than when they go pro, when no one would have cared.

28. I heard an interesting suggestion today for punishment...
more that the slap on the wrist OSU is giving him, anyway. I caller to local sports talk suggested that his $250K fine be used to give him $250K worth of tattoos. After going through that, he's not likely to forget to report this sort of stuff next time.
