If San Jose steals a team from New Orleans, do I root for it or against it?
I'm already in enough of a moral conundrum with the MLS Earthquakes, who proudly (?) display the Amway logo on their kit :eyes: . And now this:

http://www.mercurynews.com/tim-kawakami/ci_17588085

In January, Ellison, one of the richest men in the world, confirmed that he bid on the New Orleans Hornets, but the league chose to take the team over at that time and said it was seeking local ownership.

On Thursday, a spokeswoman for Ellison had no comment on the matter.

But it's probably safe to assume the NBA will wait until after this summer's labor negotiations, then put the Hornets back up for sale.

In that scenario, would anybody expect Ellison quietly to end his efforts to own a sports franchise after he was surprisingly outbid for the Warriors last July?

Now you all know how much I, a Bawlmer native and former NOLA resident, hate the Indian-no-place Dolts and Utah Jazz*. At one point I was talking about getting an expansion team and calling it the "New Orleans Tabernacle Choir".

But what do I do when it's my adopted home town doing the thieving?

1. NBA? Don't sweat it. MLS? Support it like crazy.
The NBA ain't hurting for fans. MLS can use all it can get, and you get the bonus of watching a much more entertaining sport.

3. If you took the position of only supporting teams..
Edited on Fri Mar-11-11 01:25 PM by Upton
who had sponsors, owners, and players you agreed with 100% politically...you'd have no one left to root for.

Are the Earthquakes ever going to get a new stadium? Remember the last Earthquake team moved to Houston primarily because they were being forced to play in a place with a capacity of only about 10,000..

4. So if the word "Giants" in orange and black were replaced by "Koch Industries"
you'd be down with that?

5. Not the same..
baseball doesn't put ads on their shirts like soccer. However, I'm sure there have probably been commercials during Giants games for products associated with Koch Industries...and it doesn't bother me a bit. I try to separate sports and politics as much as possible..

9. +1
With all the TV ads, radio ads and ads around the ballpark, there are bound to be far too many objectionable companies advertising for every team. There's no way to get around it. Might as well enjoy the entertainment.

8. Kind of like Hank Williams Sr., I've been everywhere.
Bawlmer, Conn. (including Norwalk), SF/Oakland, Chicago, NOLA, New Haven, NYC/NJ, Hawai'i, now San Jose. Goddess help us if I ever become President; the cost of all those "KamaAina Slept Here" signs would bankrupt the nation!

Which reminds me, I forgot to add the Whalers ("Carolina Hurricanes") to the shit list.

10. BTW, I'm still pissed at Bob Kraft for teasing the city
of Hartford with the chance to have the Patriots move there. It was just a ploy to get Foxboro to pay more towards adding luxury boxes. It was a big FUCKING deal in Connecticut.

11. And all this time I thought you were just a garden-variety Pats hater
:-)

I remember that well. The Courant came out with a special edition headlined "Touchdown!"

Now I'm wondering if the Niners aren't playing the same game with Santa Clara.

13. Not sure - but they were Charlotte's team
So it is a team that is already stolen. Back when they played in Charlotte, they had my favorite court design. The "paint" was regular court color but the area outside of it and inside the 3-point line was blueish green that kinda blended together. I miss it.
