Refs Stop Officiating End of Washington-UNC Game
Edited on Sun Mar-20-11 01:36 PM by MadBadger
This isnt as egregious as St Johns-Rutgers, but not great. At the end of the game, Washington heaves the ball down 3. They shouldnt of heaved it but they did. The ball went off Carolina and went out of bounds with 1.1 seconds left. Clock showed .5 seconds and they didnt review. Thats a huge difference in basketball. Secondly, Washington shot possibly a game typing shot (though it actually would have been a two, so not game tying) and the ball though short, was clearly goal tended. But the officials didnt care, they were done with the game once the Washington player missed the desperation three.

EDIT: UW says they asked the Refs to check how much time was left and the Officials said they did....if they did they should be fired

2. Just outrageous
now they have some official at HT of Duke/Mich lying and trying to clean up and justify an obvious cheat, er, mistake..The Huskies should have .7 more seconds on the clock...loads of time to get off a better shot. NC also shot 23 FT to UW's 7..

With the big clubs, UNC , Duke etc....the fix is always liable to be in.

3. Except for Kentucky, the NCAA has a mean streak
From the top down. Big money making scam that uses the players and does not protect them.
Should en mass go to the NAIA.

4. I watched it and I disagree.
I don't think there was an issue with the time. The clock was stopped immediately. The entire game was played that way. That sequence should be no different.

As far as the goaltend, there was no evidence of a goal tend. They looked at 5 different angles and couldn't find it. The ball hit the rim short. It wouldn't have done that if it was touched. It was a 2, so it didn't matter much anyway.

If they checked the time, they did their job.

5. They didn't check the time.
There should have been .6 more. But, gotta protect the Tar Heels.

6. Well, they wouldn't stop in the first half. 11-2 (WA-UNC) team fouls in first half.
:argh:
