Kim Clijsters: I’m not going to Japan
KEY BISCAYNE, Fla., (AP)—Kim Clijsters is planning to avoid Japan over radiation fears since an earthquake and tsunami crippled a nuclear plant there.

Clijsters told Belgian media on Tuesday that she wouldn’t go to the WTA tournament in Tokyo in September nor to one in Beijing the following month. The WTA released a statement from Clijsters on Wednesday.

“Most importantly, my thoughts and sympathies are with the people in Japan,” she said in the statement. “It’s heart-wrenching to see what they’re going through right now. Of course the health and safety of anyone traveling to a potentially impacted area is my top priority as well as the WTA’s, and I know that the WTA will continue to monitor the situation.”

Radiation has seeped into vegetables, raw milk, the water supply and seawater since a magnitude-9 quake and tsunami hit the Fukushima Dai-ichi power plant nearly two weeks ago. ...............(more)

Screw the Japanese. I have the money to avoid anything that might remotely make me sick, despite the fact that I can leave when I'm want and have the best medical care in the world so my cowardice is more important than actually you know, helping the economy/people of Japan.
Lets call a spade a spade..she's being ignorant and cowardly AND SELFISH yet will win praise for this. Me? I'm an admirer of the Japanese ball players who have decided to return to Japan to actually get their hands dirty.

3. Respectfully, I think that's nuts.
No need to risk your health for a fucking tennis match. It's a game, not a rescue operation that she's declining.

Put your own health on the line and travel over there to help out. Their economy could use your tourist money, right? It's easy to accuse others of cowardice from the comfort of a computer chair. What worries do you have if this person gets sick? None. It doesn't affect you at all, so to accuse her of cowardice is really just selfishness on YOUR part. You expect others to risk their health when you don't have to.

As for the Japanese players returning...well yeah, of course they will, they're JAPANESE! :P

4. Staying away from radiation and destruction is hardly cowardice.
Many people would even call that common sense.
