Olbermann busts cheating MFing Yankees

Yankees to stop hand signals after MLB inquiry

NEW YORK (AP)—The New York Yankees say they are finished flashing hand signals from the stands—at least for now.

General manager Brian Cashman confirmed that the team received a call Saturday from the commissioner’s office inquiring about a club employee relaying information to players after each pitch on opening day.

The Daily News reported Saturday that broadcaster Keith Olbermann, a New York season-ticket holder, put a photo on Twitter of Brett Weber, a Yankees baseball operations coaching assistant, holding up four fingers toward the field during Thursday’s game against the Detroit Tigers.

Weber was sitting behind home plate and wearing a headset....

2. Notice how KO, being the big Yankee fan he is..
tries to clean it up by suggesting it was "something less than cheating and I wasn’t looking to portray it as such" and calling this a "tempest-in-a-teapot."

However, according to the NYT, baseball operations bulletin C-4 expressly forbids team employees from using hand signals to convey pitch speeds and types. Sounds like cheating to me.

4. Yeap. Whether it is using illegal signals or pumping up on steroids, it is still cheating.
Anyone who unknowingly does something is a fucking liar.

6. Point taken mad..
but now that you've impressed that upon me, perhaps you should strive to do the same with Keith... For he has continually taken Bonds to task for cheating, but doesn't seem to feel the same way about the Yankees hand signals..

7. Hmmm. Didn't he just take them to task for cheating and call them out on it?

8. Not really...
As odd looking as this has always been, it has struck me as being something less than cheating and I wasn’t looking to portray it as such. As I wrote earlier, I noticed this last year and made a few desultory attempts to capture the images, but none had been to my satisfaction until Thursday – so it was not as if I was trying to catch the Yankees at anything, and, obviously I’ve been in no hurry to do so.

El Supremo's thread title is misleading. Olbermann is a longtime big Yankee fan. I don't think he had any idea baseball operations bulletin C-4 existed. He wasn't trying to bust them at anything..and I'm sure he's now sorry he put those pics out..

9. The point is, Olbermann DID call them out on it. It is just sad that certain fans
can't call out the cheaters that actually DID cheat.

13. No...Olbermann did NOT call them out on it..
KO, apparently completely unaware of the C-4 rule, put a photo on twitter not realizing the stir it would cause. Then, after an uproar ensued and MLB got involved, he writes an apologetic like clarification of his original intentions in which he defends the Yankees actions...

"it has struck me as being something less than cheating and I wasn’t looking to portray it as such"

"it was not as if I was trying to catch the Yankees at anything"

"The same information – pitch type and speed – is flashed on the gigantic centerfield scoreboard"

"this tempest-in-a-teapot"

Those quotes don't sound like Keith was ever trying to call anyone out.....on the contrary, he's defending his favorite team and trying his best to stay in the Yankees good graces..
