The Tuomo Ruutu, Dennis Wideman hit that never was.
If the Canes get into the playoffs this weekend, it may set up a Canes/Capitals series. Caps fans say they want Washington Players to go after Ruutu (I'd love that because if they do, they will get beat). The funny thing though is if you look at the video, Ruutu didn't even hit Wideman. He was falling down after losing his edge.

Video. What do you think?

1. I see no issue with either team's reaction.
That was not a dirty hit (he barely even made contact). Wideman sees the hit coming at the last second and is backing away and/or losing an edge. Ruutu, who does have a reputation in the league, didn't do anything wrong here this time.

As for Ovechkin's response, I love it. He saw a teammate down and went right to the guy he thought did the dirty deed. I'll never complain about someone sticking up for a teammate, even if the reason they do so isn't what always what they think. I'm not Ovechkin's biggest fan, but I can't knock the guy for his passion and intensity, that's for sure.

My verdict: Good hockey stuff all around. No harm, no foul. :)

2. Wouldn't it just be easier for the Ex-Whalers to choke again?
That'd solve the whole problem.

3. Hope not. My seats in section 101 would be lonely without me.
:)
