Uncle Mo going to have his public workout in the Wood Memorial. |
|
It goes off in about an hour from now. Anyone watching the races today?
I wish there was someone in the field who could challenge him but it looks like it will be nothing more than an afternoon workout.
Pletcher is following the campaign schedule of Seattle Slew in '77. So far, same results.

4. Yes, he looked like a tired horse inside the eighth pole. |
|
It is hard not to believe the media hype when you have an undefeated horse going into a big race. But Pletcher did not seem to have Mo ready today.

5. Now I can root for him full blast |

I want a Triple Crown winner, but not an undefeated Triple Crown winner.
The Slew comparisons were getting a little bit out of hand. I'm amazed how little it takes.
I guess the breeding is a question mark going 10 furlongs or more. But today was a stunner.

Third to Angle Light, a stablemate
Sham ran second without excuse, which is never adequately explained by fans who want to pretend Sham, "would have won the Triple Crown in any other year, blah blah, blah..."
Secretariat was 5/2 in the Derby based on that Wood loss. Otherwise he would have been even money or slight odds-on. The 5/2 was value considering all the great form he'd shown. Too bad I wasn't betting in junior high. :D

wow--- I would have jumped that big time. Of course my 5 dollar allowance at the time wouldn't have been a big return.
