When Good Coaches Make Baffling Decisions |
|
Buck Showalter made a couple really dumb decisions tonight against the yankees that cost the O's the game.
First was ass-backwards personnel decisions. You have a guy that was a solid closer for you last year in Koji Uehara. You are up 5-4 in the Ninth and you bring in some other bum (who you signed for no reason to be your closer (kevin gregg)). He gives up a home run on the first pitch and then a double against the next batter. You would think you would bring in Uehara for the 10th if you get out of the inning. Instead he brings in Mike Gonzalez who is about as Clutch as LeBron. Of course he walks the first hitter, then a double and eventually loses.
But ignoring personnel decisions, the insane decisions of Buck with man on 2nd and 3rd, tied 5-5. I think you intentionally walk Robinson Cano to set up a force out at home and possibly a DP. Instead he pitches to him and gets out of that on a hard liner. Then you definitely IBB the next hitter to set up the Double Play and end the inning. Instead he pitches to the Yanks again, with lefty on righty. Of course they hit a sacrifice fly and the game ends.
Two incredibly stupid decisions, personnel and strategy in the span of two innings that lost the game. I just dont get it
