Now, these numbers are skewed somewhat by the big opening day crowds. Still, teams like the Yankees, Dodgers and Cubs are down at this point compared to last year. And look at the poor Mariners, they are down 23.1%, getting only 12,770 last night..

How do the Red Sox go down (even slightly) when they sell out every game??

but the Red Sox have had differing attendance figures this year. Ranging from a high of 37,916 to a low of 37,015. One reason might be because visiting teams are always given a certain allotment of tickets, and whatever the amount is of those tickets that are not sold are then returned back to the home team which can then sell them to their fans..

2. Little early for this, isn't it? |

Away vs Home games aren't quite even yet. Look no further than the Giants -- 11 away games, 6 home games.

a lot of other influences, opening day, weather, quality of the opponent etc., are affecting the numbers too, and a lot of them are going to change. For instance, the A's aren't going to stay some 26% ahead of last year's pace.
MLB attendance has already declined 3 consecutive years though, so I thought it was interesting.
Speaking of the Giants, and after looking at this further, I see the guy who did these numbers claimed he waited until each team had played at least two homestands. Well, seems to me, the Giants have had only one..the second starting tonight.

If the economy ever recovers, then we can judge attendance.

7. Glad to see the Nationals up |

Though still not great numbers. Hopefully if they stay competitive this year they can continue to improve

8. This appears to be comparing the average for the whole 2010 season to a few weeks early in 2011. |
|
If that's so, this is a worthless story.

9. #5 - LA Dodgers @ 39,000 tickets sold/game. |
|
How do you draw an avg. of 40,000 fans, 82 times a year, and still not be able to turn a profit?
There really must be some major league clusterfucking going on with the Dodgers mgmt.
