Jim Mandich, the Voice of the Dolphins, loses battle with cancer |
|
South Florida lost a tremendous talent this evening as Jim "Mad Dog" Mandich lost his long battle with cancer. Mandich was tight end for the Fins in their 1972 perfect season. RIP Mad Dog. You will be sorely missed :-( http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/sports/Dolphins-Announcer-Jim-Mandich-Loses-Battle-With-Cancer-120751314.html

1. Winning TD catch in the toughest game of 1972 |

The 16-14 comeback at Minnesota in game three.
I always think of Mandich as the receiving TE on that team, not as a broadcaster.
Dolphin radio is Rick Weaver and Henry Barrow. Mandich is forever #88; smart and resourceful, just like the entire team from that era.
A year ago when he was diagnosed with the bile duct cancer I researched it briefly, and never again. There was no good news.

He was so awesome. His color commentary was the best part about the Dolphins games. I would turn off the TV sound just to hear Mad Dog's version of events. And yes, he will be missed :(
