All right, It's prediction time for Gatti/Mayweather.
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 08:05 AM by dr.zoidberg
A big fight takes place Saturday night in the most talent filled weight class in boxing- the 147-pound division. The fight is between Floyd Mayweather and Arturo Gatti for Gatti's WBC 147-pound belt.
Lately I haven't been really sure about my picks lately due to all the upsets this year. However, I feel confident that Mayweather is too much for Gatti. I'll take Floyd by UD12.

1. It's a tough call......
Gatti's got the grit to go the distance with Floyd - something few fighters have, these days, and his 3 knock-down, drag-out fights with Mickey Ward show that he has the beard...and he has shown that he can recover from a knock-down and come back to win...

I wonder about his hands, tho - he broke one of them TWICE during the Gatti-Ward bloodbaths...he managed to hold off Ward in the later rounds both times, but will he be able to do the same for Floyd?

I think the fight will go the whole 12 rounds, and if Gatti gets to use BOTH hands for the whole fight, it will be close...

But I think Floyd will take the fight...

It is pretty hard to gauge, since Floyd has not exactly had a lot of tough opposition ove rthe past 5 years:

2000 -
+ (Mar-18-2000, Las Vegas) Gregorio VARGAS 12 (W.B.C., Junior lightweight)
+ (Oct-21-2000, Detroit) Emmanuel BURTON kot 9
- 2001 -
+ (Jan-20-2001, Las Vegas) Diego CORRALES kot 10 (W.B.C., Junior lightweight)
+ (May-26-2001, Grand Rapids) Carlos Famoso HERNANDEZ 12 (W.B.C., Junior lightweight)
+ (Nov-10-2001, San Francisco) Jesus Gabriel CHAVEZ retiring 10 (W.B.C., Junior lightweight)
- 2002 -
+ (Apr-20-2002, Las Vegas) Jose Luis CASTILLO 12 (W.B.C., Lightweight) e
+ (Dec-7-2002, Las Vegas) Jose Luis CASTILLO 12 (W.B.C., Lightweight)
- 2003 -
+ (Apr-19-2003, Fresno) Victoriano SOSA 12 (W.B.C., Lightweight)
+ (Nov-1-2003, Grand Rapids) Phillip NDOU kot 7 (W.B.C., Lightweight)
- 2004-
+ (May 22, 2004, Atlantic City) Demarcus Corley 12 (Junior Welterweight)

I wonder if/when Floyd's going to fight Kostya Tszyu, tho...and what the result might be...

2. Interesting.
Floyd mentioned that he would like to fight Tszyu if he won against Gatti. Of course, Floyd could also fight Hatton. Their are a lot of options at 147, so you really can't say who will fight who right now. Now from what I've heard, Hatton is going to see the fight in person, so that may indicated something. Hatton can also fight Miguel Cotto, who's has called Hatton out, and he can also fight Vivian Harris, who Hatton ducked a few years back.

3. I screwed up. The fight is at 140 pounds, not at 147.
:dunce: .
