I'm a huge Pistons fan, but I don't see it happening. They HAD to win last night and couldn't.

in frustration over some debates, but I want to say this:
Props to the Pistons. Last night was one of the most exciting basketball games I have ever watched.
Did you see that one stat? This was the 24th time a Finals game 5 was breaking a 2-2 tie. First time ever it was tied at the half.
After 4 straight blowouts, we get a squeaker like this? Astounding. The Pistons were right there. This game could easily have gone either way, and I'd have been accepting of it had the Spurs lost, instead. It was the sort of game you wish could end in a tie.
They were and are great champions. And as a fan of a team that's twice one a championship, only to fail to defend it, I have to say this: Do not let anybody feed you any bullshit about how you have to repeat to be a "legitimate" champion. People forget how the "legitimate" Lakers and Celtics swapped out a lot in the '80s.
As a matter of fact, before the '87 and '88 Lakers repeated, you have to jump back to the Celtics of the '60s to find a repeating champion. So, hopefully, we can see a rebirth of several teams on top, instead of one long dynasty.
Unless it's my Spurs.

3. Pistons are mentally tough... |
|
Or so Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser say.
So long as the games end at 12:30am I'll ignore the whole thing.

4. Duncan has got to get tough |
|
He's getting banged around under the basket. He only made 2 or 3 strong moves to the basket last night. I'm not saying the Spurs cannot win with Duncan choking, it's just a lot harder.
Bottom line: A team with 2 big physical men under the basket (e.g. Detroit 2004-2005f, Spurs 2003) will force the other team to shoot outside shots. In a pressure situation, a slam dunk from under the basket is a lot surer shot than forced 3-pointers. Putting my heart aside, I've got to favor Detroit in game 7.

it appears the Pistons just might win two straight in Sanantonio. It's fun messin' with Texas.
