Can we do a Sports Forum roll call?
I'm liking this place - I can talk about sports without the Lounge saints pissing on me for enjoying mysoginistic ground acquisition violence games - and I'd like to know who else posts here. Post your favorite teams.

WilliamPitt: Patriots, Red Sox, BC Eagles, Holy Cross Crusaders

102. Colts here too!
I love the Colts (especially recent years but we've been fans for a long time). I follow Indiana (IU) Basketball and the Cubs (for my Dad). I root for the Pacers but I don't follow NBA basketball too much.

14. Feeling good about Pedro
I'm not worried about his antics, we need pitching badly, well we need everything. Yeah we overpaid, but we were criticized for being cheap with Vlad Guerrero, A-Rod, ect.. Al Leiter was our ace, but he is a B level pitcher, Pedro is the best pitcher we've had probably since Doc Gooden in his prime. Or Tom Seaver.
Sammy's on the decline.

16. I think you're going to enjoy him
As I said in another thread, Pedro's "decline" is mostly due to the fact that his opponents in the AL, particularly the Yankees, have seen him 60 times in the last few years. They can see his changeup coming now. In the NL, his old tricks will become new tricks. The dominant performance he chucked up against St. Louis is evidence of this.

Have fun. He's a wild ride.

I personally like Cabrera better than Renteria, although he is a good player, I liked C's flashy defence.

I work in Times Square and my office faces the Billboard Oregon has used for the past three seasons to market the Ducks.

They have a deal with YES Network(Yankees owned TV network) to play the Ducks games Saturday evening and Sunday morning, so I get to watch the games even though I am in NY.

My brother lives in NYC, although his Duck loyalty has slacked off over the years.

Was just there for his wedding, saw a friend. She said that there was a bar where Duck fans would gather for games, but the Alumni association got pissed off (because nobody was going to their bar) and got it shut down.

*sigh* No one to lament with me as Havocdad screamed and swore in the TV room...

My IceCats can't lick their lips this year, so that's out. Maybe this spring I can cheer a little minor league baseball. Those fresh outta high school kids from PR are so funny when they come to Montana and try to figure out why they are freezing to death in July. But those kids play ball with more heart and soul than most of the big time players. Much more fun to cheer. (Ever see the face on a kid the first time someone asks for an autograph? :D )

Last Thursday I went to see my alma mater, Lamar, play Rice at Autry Court. Very entertaining game.

Rice won a close game. I like their teams too. And LSU (Mom got her Master's there).

As the Lounge's official screaming, man-hating, militant feminist ;) I hereby declare it so. So there. :)

Anyway, I grew up in the Dallas area so I love my Cowboys, Rangers, and Mavericks. I went to Texas Tech and the University of Texas so I root hard for the Red Raiders and Longhorns too. And of course, anybody playing Oklahoma. ;) Oh, and throw in the Houston Comets - I was at Texas Tech when Sheryl Swoopes was tearing up the NCAA and I'll root for her every time.

OU or OSU NCAA Baseball

Let's see. Mavericks - Pro Basketball, Vikings - Pro Football and followed Dallas prior to Jerry Jones and during Switzer's reign. Only hockey I've really been exposed to is minor league type stuff. OKC has the Stars. It's interesting to watch, but I wouldn't call myself a fan.

OKC Redhawks - Minor League Baseball.

Byng Pirates - HS Basketball and Baseball, Ada Cougars and Tonkawa Buccaneers - HS Football

64. Red Sox
Red Sox, Red Sox, Red Sox. Baseball season never ends in Red Sox Nation. Even though I'm afraid next season will be a MAJOR jolt back to our normal state, which is grousing about everything and missing the playoffs because the pitching staff will wilt like steamed spinach.

65. anti_shrub reporting for duty:
NFL: STEELERS!
MLB: Pirates
NHL: Penguins (apparently I'm the one person in America that misses hockey...)
NBA: I hate pro basketball, egos and immature players have killed it for me.

College: Pitt Panthers all the way.

I also like NASCAR, boxing, pro wrestling (I know, not *technically* a sport) and I even enjoy the occaisonal soccer match.

71. I'm a girl!
I'm a girly girl but I'd rather watch sports than shop :D

NFL: anyone
MLB: anyone not on steroids. Hubby wants me to pull for his team (Cincinnati Reds), but I really have no favorite... Living in Yankee-land, I have a love-hate relationship with both teams (Yankees and Mets), and I've relished rubbing it to Yankee fans by wearing Red Sox sweats
NHL: anyone who can manage not to get the crap beat out of him! and when will it be over with the strike?
NBA: the notion of "team" disappeared a while ago.. now it's all about the individual... I'm a great admirer of Grant Hill, personally and professionally. To me, his recovery and comeback are the second best story in sports (second to the Red Sox) and very few talk about it...

NCAA hoops: college hoops are my biggest obsession (it's the fault of my college years in the NC triangle area, ACC country) to me, there's no question and it's one word: KRZYZEWSKI... he's the best... .Duke Men and Women Blue Devils

NCAA football: this is the one sport I don't give a rat's behind on... but if it's on the tube and I've got a choice between watching the game or going to Bloomingdales, I'll pick the game (no wonder my hubby loves me soooo much and I have mostly male friends)

Motor sports: Yes, I watch NASCAR... Yes, many rednecks like it too, but there are normal people of all races and backgrounds who also enjoy it... Favorite driver? Jeff Gordon, no doubt. He is an excellent driver and a good guy, personally, especially post-divorce.

I also enjoy Formula 1, although I don't get to see it here in the U.S. (unless I want to get up early in the a.m. and turn on the Speed channel), but I have been to a few F1 races when I was a kid (my dad is an engineer who worked on F1 stuff) and I met personally with legendary driver Ayrton Senna, not long before he was to die.

In college, I played volleyball and I like to watch it when they show it on TV (mostly during the olympics). I watch ESPN, I listen to sports radio and I read Sports Illustrated. I subscribe to The Sporting News (great all-around coverage).

My mission in life is to shatter the stereotype of women not being into sports or the stereotype that says a woman into sports must be a lesbian or butchy looking....

I'm an attractive woman, happily married, who is a sports fanatic... in fact, the biggest argument my husband and I have ever had in our 5 year marriage has been at the end of a Carolina-Duke men's hoops game, which Carolina won by 1 point... I was very unhappy... I said "They may have won... but it was totally undeserved!" To which, hubby made the mistake of replying, "What do you mean 'undeserved'?" and chaos ensued :D

79. I pop in from time to time
I'm a Seattle guy (M's, Seahawks, Sonics and WSU Cougars)

I can't freakin wait until spring training to get a look at Adrian Beltre. The Sonics are providing WAY more entertainment value than I expected this year. Add in the Seahawks desperate (and kind of pathetic) ass-flop into the NFC playoffs and it's a pretty nice sports scene in Seattle these days...

84. regarding beltre
I've been following this kid since he was in AA. The only difference between his .334/.388/.629 in 2004, and his .240/.290/.424 in 2003 was his willingness to go the other way. once he "discovered" right field, everything changed. now, I have never thought that he couldn't use the right side of the field, I always assumed that he just wouldn't.

maybe he's learned the magic lesson, or maybe now that he's signed a stellar contract, he's uncoachable (sp?) -- that was widely whispered in LA for years -- and will go back to his free swinging, raul mondesi-esque ways.

and maybe it's as simple as having another year to heal from that horribly botched dominican appendectomy. it's just so hard to say.

I can give you an easy way to tell if you have the good beltre or the bad beltre, and you should be able to tell early on. the bad beltre swings at anything off the outside of the plate when he goes down 0-2. the good beltre didn't. once. all season long. the change was amazing.

Right-handed hitters absolutely DIE in Safeco if they don't hit it to right field.

Right center and straight away right field are the big power spots here.

(Alas, I am currently "teamless," when it comes to the NBA, though I'm loving the old-fashioned play of the Suns and Sonics this year. Team basketball is a joy to watch.)

It comes down to baseball, soccer and cycling, with basketball and hockey on the side and football as social background noise, in my world.

Football: I just love football, so any team will do! I guess since I grew up near Austin, Texas, I am partial to the Longhorns.

Baseball: Houston Astros

Basketball: San Antonio Spurs

Favorite player: Tim Duncan, Spurs. Because he plays the game the way it should be played and he plays with dignity. All time favorite: Earl Campbell, for the same reasons. Earl never ran ten yards and pointed to the heavens and pounded his chest like these modern day assclowns. When he scored a TD, he handed the ball to the ref and walked away. He acted like he 'had been there before'. I am as my name implies -- old school.

Golf = Ernie Els
Baseball = grew up loving the LA Dodgers back in the Sandy Koufax days and then moved to San Diego and became a Padres diehard. Married a baseball coach, Division 1 West Coast and also with Padres so I watched alotta bball... moved to VT and don't have t.v, so I've lapsed.
Hockey -- I'm a professor at Castleton State and some of my students are hockey players (even the women) soooo, I'm learning. You can take the girl outta southern california, but you can't take the So Cal outta the girl. We might not "get" ice hockey -- just not in the genes.

Personally, body boarding is cool. But I don't follow surfing.

I'm still most loyal of all to my original hometown Canes. Kicking Gator ass in the Peach Bowl was much more satisfying than attending the Orange Bowl with my alma mater USC dismissing Oklahoma.

Otherwise I root for the Dolphins and Heat and November thru March, becaused I loathe baseball.

And since I wager on hundreds of games each week during basketball season, I'm rooting for stuff like Manhattan and Siena to go under 147 every night.
