I loved the original 1976 version. One of the funniest things about it was how true to life it was of little league baseball (hyper-competitive jerk dads, kids that can't play very well getting crapped on, boys feeling threatened by a girl who can play, etc.)
So for my money, this is a movie that didn't need to be remade. I like Billy Bob Thornton, but I have a feeling that this updated version is just going to be a watered-down immitation of the original.

said dont waste your money on it. Too much bad language, watered down story, not good for kids, etc.

5. Bad language doesn't bother me |
|
Most little boys cuss up a blue streak when their parents aren't around, so hearing it from kids mouths doesn't bother me either.
Now, a watered down story of a classic film? That offends me. ;-)

That's funny. I wouldn't consider the original a thing for younger children either.

...and Tanner unleashes some very un PC lanuguage, Englebert gives the Yankee pitcher the finger. Not what I would call wholesome entertainment. But then again. that's what made it so great.

One of the funnies lines in the movie. Why the hell did they remake this anyway? Get some creativity please, Hollywood. Perhaps a Batman 5 or something?

11. I agree, original not for younger kids |
|
but this reviewer said he would not feel good about bringing young teens either. I normally like this guy, he works for local radio and isnt a censorship nut. He just warned parents that even though this was marketed for kids he didnt think it was fit for them.

4. Holy Chocolate Factory Batman! |

You can't dis a remake just because you loved the original.
Well, besides that FUCKING HORRIBLE frame-by-frame remake of Psycho.

And Charlie and the Chocolate Factory wasn't a remake.
It was a different adaptation of the book.

10. I HATE remakes. Michael Ritchie made a great trilogy of films in the '70s |
|
the '70s all revolving around competition: THE CANDIDATE, SMILE and BAD NEWS BEARS. He also made another 'sports' film, DOWN-HILL RACER which had a great documentary feel to it, which isn't too strange as he had a background in documentary film-making.
Remaking 'classics' or soon-to-be 'classics' is insane.
