Rafael Palmeiro suspended 10 games for violating steroid policy.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2121659

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Rafael Palmeiro will be suspended by Major League Baseball for violating the league's steroids policy, ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney has confirmed with a league source.

Palmeiro, who recently got his 3,000th career hit, was noted for his emotional denial of steroid use before a Congressional panel in March, would be the latest player suspended under the league's new drug policy.

3. They need to put an asterisk next to the names of today's players

Palmeiro, like Bonds and McGwire and Sosa, is guaranteed to be elected to the HOF, even though he's a steroid user.

That's a slap in the face to all the Babe Ruths, Hank Aarons, Willie Mays, and Mike Schmidts in the HOF, not to mention every other player in the pre-strike era who played the game without the benefit of the Super Soldier Serum.

17. God, I hope you're right
I'm so fucking tired of people who don't belong getting elected. People in the Hall should be those who inspired awe, not passed a few landmarks that are getting easier and easier to pass.

11. All of them?
Even the ones that never used steroids?

Guilty until proven innocent? With no way of being proven innocent?

13. Remember folks,
This is an ongoing investigation and we cannot comment on any of the allegations, until the ongoing investigation is complete.

He also did not knowingly use steroids (ala Barry Bonds).

Sounds like he deserves a free pass into George Bush's hall of fame!

15. You know, I e-mailed
the guys at ESPN radio about just that-hypogonadism and erectile failure on high dose anabolic steroids. They talked about it on the air, and said it was ridiculous. They also claimed that steroids did not increase speed and hand-eye coordination. Both of those assertions are patently wrong.

I hate to say it, but this is the shoe we all knew would probably drop at some point. In the long run, hopefully this will help baseball. Today, however, is a sad day.

24. Why do it with a 500/3000 guy?
There are literally dozens of stars to bring down without triggering a debate on the record book.

If Gary Sheffield were caught, everyone would pay attention, everyone would believe it, and no one would be talking about putting an asterisk in the record book because he has little historical impact. He's also a bad guy whereas Palmeiro is generally respected.

This would be like setting up Osacr DeLaHoya when Mike Tyson is available to take a fall.

Stephanie Miller's fill-in just said Palmeiro is a Bush supporter.
