I think hes full of crap, Scotty MickC was saying that Bush believed him too. Yeah and Palmeiro also gave the campaign 2K last year. Theyre long time friends going back to Bushs Rangers owning days.

If there is "something" in his throat lozenges that should not be there, he's not at fault. Otherwise, he can hang....

To think he was once one of my favorite players. I defended the guy, no more though. Still gonna be an Orioles fan but Ive lost respect for Palmeiro, he should just admit it.

If you read that book Stan the Man is a big liberal who made August Busch buy a motel in Florida during spring training so all the players could be housed as a team instead of sending the black players to the black part of town. I was in the clubhouse on Stan Musial night in NY and I have a ball signed by Stan the Man, Kenny boyer and Bob Gibson to me and my brother.

Stan the Man and I have a little in common, having Eastern European heritage and have Pennsylvania in our blood. What a classy thing to do by Musial btw, I want to read that book since it has my fave NL team the Cards beating my most hated team, the Yanks. Musial in this book I have tells of meeting Kennedy in the primaries campaigning and Kennedy told him some say I am a little young to run for president and youre a little old to play baseball. He was real proud to meet Kennedy. Was he a coach in 1964?

but to me he is one of the greatest humans. He is behind LBJ in the picture when he signed the Civil Rights bill. Oct '64 is much more than a baseball book. It is written by Halberstam and as you know he was very involved with the Tennessean during the marches. The stories he tells about Curt Flood will break your heart. He writes his books with the backdrop being what is happening in the country. You should also read summer of '49. If you hate McCarver this book will make you like him.

I should read that, thanks, Ill look for it. Can you get that picture for me? Yeah I really kind of identify with Musial, we got a little in common. He to me is one of the most underrated players in history. Only thing he need was 500 homeruns to make it all complete. I also admire Ted Williams who my dad met.

and you'll like McCarver. He is very important to the racial harmony of the Cardinals. I have 16 baseball in my family signed by the 40's era stars. 3 full yankee balls with Joe D, Bosox ball with Ted and Bobby Doerr and a full Dodger ball with Jackie Robinson.

Summer of '49 is about the pennant race between the Yanks and the Red sox. The comparison of the 2 books from a sociological view that in '48 the game was played in the east, broadcast on radio, travelled on train and 50% of the Yanks were Italian. In Oct'64 the game is now national, on TV, travelis by palne and 50% of the Cardinals are minorities.

22. To anyone who knows baseball |
|
Stan was great. THe one that kills me as far as being underrated is Willie Mays. Nowadays he seems a second to Hank Aaron and anyone growing up in the 60"s knows Willie was the better player. If you listen to sunday night baseball Joe Morgan is always saying that Willie was the better player by staing that there should be a single award every yesr for the most outstanding player and that it should be called the Willie Mays award.

if there are steroids in there, Rafe sure as hell knows how they got there. Too bad. I actually like Rafe. Unfortunately, his accomplishments will always be tainted now. I think the 'roids helped him prolong his career, as much as anything.

I had heard whispers early on that somebody had lied under oath about steroids, and the feds confiscated a bunch of urine samples from the MLB lab. It sounded like somebody else was going to get nailed. Now it looks like Palmeiro might be guilty of lying under oath.

he had little power. In fact, that's one reason they let him go. Now he has over 500 homers. Maturation as a hitter or steroids? Or a combination of both? Hmmm...

Right - At that time they had Grace and Palmeiro both coming up at 1B, and being the dumbasses the Cubs always are, they figgered they had to trade one of them (even though Palmeiro hit .300 with great plate discipline as a rookie). They also threw Jamie Moyer in on that deal BTW, which netted them the great Mitch Williams. Apparently they didn't know you can hide a poor fielder/arm in LF... This was a few years before they decided not to give Maddux the big money.

31. Different management back then |
|
And as far as Maddux was concerned, his agent called the Cubs bluff and won. And they would not have won the eastern division in '89 without Mitch Williams. Maddux was there in '89 btw. Never ever argue Cubs with me because there is no diebold voting machine here. I know facts and figures.
