NY Jets Sign CB Ty Law
Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 02:15 PM by Magic Rat
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2128536

The press conference was today at 2:00 p.m. and this is great, great news for Jets fans. We've been short at corner since Aaron Glenn left in the expansion draft. This fills that hole greatly.

With the Pats on the way down, the Bills with a rookie QB and the Dolphins being putrid, this is the Jets year to take that division and go all the way.

J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!!!

Best of luck though!! And congrats on signing Law for about $5M/year more than anyone else was willing to give him.

3. Bummer; I had hoped he'd sign with Detroit
He worked out for them last month. Would be nice to have had Michigan man, Ty Law, back in Michigan. Oh well...we have Charles Rogers who is apparently constructed from tissue paper; he's broken his collarbone twice in only two seasons. Lucky, lucky us...:-(

4. Jets won't make the playoffs
A QB coming off rotator cuff surgery is not a good thing. Their OL is problematic too because of the loss of McKenzie.

14. I agree
They lost a shitload of free agents in the offseason, and Pennington is questionable at best with that rotator cuff. Curtis Martin is still good, but he's getting older. Signing Coles and Ty Law, though, were two excellent moves.

5. "With the Pats on the way down"
One of these days, one of these days, people are going to stop doubting Bill Belichick.

What is Law's health status, btw? If he's at 100%, this was a great pickup for you.

6. "On the way down?"
Pssst--THREEPEAT. These guys are better than they were last year--if that's even possible.

LET'S GO PATS!

9. yeah right
First of all you took a bunch of hits on defense, not only with players, but with coaches too.

Second of all, by the end of the season Belichek will be tripling as both the head coach and offensive and defensive coordinator.

He'll be burned out.

This is a a 10-6 season at best for Pats.

12. Just keep telling yourself that
Law is damaged goods. Lis franc injuries are tricky at best. Nah, I think Cry Law's best days are behind him. The Jets have major issues (still) in their secondary, I can hear Pennington's rotator crackling from here and let's face it, Herm just isn't going to get it done. You should know that by now.

13. A bunch of hits on defense--who were quickly replaced.
We have as many as nine corners--and with Asante Samuel and Randall Gay playing as well as they did last year, we will have no trouble shutting down any passing attack in the NFL. Even better if Duane Starks can return to his 2001 form.

As for the linebacker position, sure, we lost Bruschi and Johnson, but the roster is incredibly deep. McGinest, Brown, Colvin, and Vrabel will easily fill the four slots.

And Belichick won't have to be defensive coordinator. Eric Mangini can execute it without his help. His offense will be helped by the fact that he has one of the best and smartest QBs in the game. Brady won't have any trouble pulling off the offense.

Burned out? Stop doubting the Pats. It's because of the naysayers that they do as well as they do.

10. nobody knows how healthy he is
he had an injury that could pop back up at any time. Certainly it was a risk getting him, but its also a no-brainer. Even if he's at 75% he's still better than anything we have right now.

Plus we signed him to an incentive-heavy deal, so if he doesn't play, or doesn't play well, it doesn't cost us that much against the cap.

11. The Jets overpaid
Look, I love Ty Law; I wore a #24 jersey watching the first two Super bowl victories. But to give an injured thirtysomething this kind of money is weird. At some point the Jets are going to have a cap issue becasue of thism signing.

8. the NFL should get whatever Ray Mickens has and bottle it
Even tho he's lost his starting job he wanted Law to sign because it will make the team stronger.
