Glory days.

My favorite football game of all time(Florida fans would not agree, though).

Even SI recognizes the greatness of Sweet Pea.

5. Horse racing
The greatest horse that ever looked through a bridle! Spectacular Bid.

The greatest rivalry in sports, Affirmed and Alydar. They could have raced from California to New York and Affirmed wasn't gonna let Alydar get by him.

18. That second one, especially, gives me goosebumps
:-)

A couple of favourite moments for me:

How could be a teenage girl and not love this lady:

Not an especially great Derby - but not only was he Canadian, his owner was from my hometown. I must have blown the roof off the house with this win...my voice had barely recovered from Runaway Groom's Travers the year before:

9. Hail Mary!
(Second favorite to the Sox World Series cover but that's already been shown. :) )

We were having dinner at a restaurant in Acton, MA when the game was on. TVs were showing it in the bar. When Flutie threw that pass to Gerard Phelan everyone in the bar and half of us in the restaurant stood up for what seemed the longest time while that ball hung in the air and then when Phelan caught it the whole place erupted! It was a magical moment.

21. I was glued to the TV that day, too
at a watering hole with a giant screen TV in Watertown, MA. Yeeeehaaawww -- what an explosion of feeling and cheers. Great play.

Alas, with the Pat's newest QB addition having a great night in Friday's first exhibition game, Flutie -- at age 42 -- may not make the team as the 3rd QB. His playing days may be at an end. But he has been a great and exciting competitor all the way along...Thanks for the memories, Doug.

14. Dempsey - Willard
I remember this cover giving me the creeps when I was little. The story was about how Jack Dempsey used tape soaked in plaster of paris (allegedly). Willard said that he could hear the bones in his face breaking with every hit.
