If there were a Sports Network that didn't show Sports...
would it be called ESPN?

I just don't get ESPN. With the NHL departing for OLN I have to wonder how long it will be till ESPN is nothing but Poker games and sportscenter.

I watch baseball on Fox Sports
I will watch football on anything but ESPN aside from what...1 game?
I will watch hockey on OLN
I don't watch basketball, but if I did it would be on network or Fox Sports.
I watch european football on Fox Sports World, and the new soccer channel.

So espn shows some random game occasionally, but they're almost always available to local viewers on a different channel with the local annoucners who are generally better. If you aren't living in the city and you actually care about watching the game you probably have MLB extra innings, NFL Sunday Ticket, or NHL center ice. Or you go to a bar that has same.

ESPN is going the route of MTV. A sports channel that doesn't actually show sports as anything but an afterthought.

I watched hockey on ESPN only if I absolutely had no other choice.

3. I read a few years ago that ESPN was going to get "MTVed"
Remember when MTV played videos?

The Bobby Knight biopic starring Brian Dennehy (sp?) was the first major production that ESPN undertook. Look for more of the same. Eventually the ESPN you know will be on ESPN2 or ESPN News.

7. There's Baseball 3 Nights A Week On ESPN
They have the NFL and they have NBA games. I'm not sure i know what you're talking about.

Now i do understand the whole poker, and X Games, and rodeo stuff and all that. But, i watch a LOT of sports on ESPN. They're a LONG, LONG way from being MTV'd.

9. they have Monday Night Football and basketball and baseball
I'd hardly say they don't show sports anymore. Their ratings for hockey were less than the programs they aired when hockey was on strike.

10. Why doesn't that surprise me!
and I'm sure that has a lot to do with the NHL playing on OLN now. Does every cable system even have OLN? Thank God for NHL Center Ice!

11. OLN's programming gets better every year.
No, not every cable or satellite system has OLN, but those that don't aren't worth purchasing. OLN is one of the channels that might actually make it worth the money.

12. Good to know....
not that I'm an outdoorsy type, aside from jogging and hiking. But what about the people who have no choice but a cable system that doesn't carry it? I feel bad for the true American hockey fans who won't be able to get it, especially if they are unable to purchase a dish.

14. It IS, isn't it?
years ago, I went snow-shoeing at the parc, but never jogging. They've got stairs and stuff to run also. And that view of downtown! Planning a trip in late October to visit friends and see the Habs.
