Flutie looks to be Brady's backup
(Good grief; he's 42!)

FOXBOROUGH, Mass., Aug. 19 — If Doug Flutie hasn't already locked up the backup quarterback job on the New England Patriots, this week should do the trick.

...

The Patriots have an extra day of practice between Thursday night's preseason home opener against New Orleans and their next game, against the Green Bay Packers on Friday night. For Belichick, a fanatic about making the most of practice time, it's a good opportunity to work on some things that haven't come up yet.

Flutie, of course, needs no introduction to the end-of-game dramatics. He is best known for a last-second launch to help Boston College beat Miami in 1984, the year he won the Heisman Trophy.

That was a long time ago, and Flutie has traveled to the USFL, the CFL and four NFL teams before returning to the Patriots for a second stint. Now 42, he signed this offseason to back up Tom Brady, a two-time Super Bowl MVP.

1. From a Raider Fan living in San Diego ......
hadn't payed much attention to the off season, guess the Chargers let Flutie go because they have Phillips to backup uh what's his name starting out here now. Anyway .... always was a Flutie fan, and wish him the best in New England. Peace. :)

2. Go Flutie!!!!

Big Flutie fan here...glad to see that he is still around. I bought my three year old daughter a Buffalo Bills jersey -- it has the #7 and Flutie on the back. It is her favorite shirt and she gets a lot of positive comments when she wears it.

My wife has a crush on Doug Flutie, also.

4. They thought Johnson was going to be the "golden boy".
I couldn't believe it...Johnson had that one good game at the end of the season and they started him in the playoffs instead of Flutie.

Flutie is a winner and a scrapper -- that guy never gives up!!
