1st Annual DU Fantasy Hockey League
I just created a Yahoo fantasy hockey league for DUers.

I'd like to have at least 6 teams active to start the league.

PM me with your email address if you want in.

4. Basics
You draft a team before the season starts. I believe you can rank the order you want your players. So if you want Bertuzzi more than anybody else in the league you rank him first.

After the draft, you can trade or pickup free agents. I listed the league settings in another post so you can see how many of each player you get. You switch players from being on the bench to being active on a daily basis or whatever your time allows.

The more goals, assists, PIM's, +/-, etc your players get, the better your team does.

At the end of the season, the top teams play for the Inaugural DU Cup

For those of you who haven't played fantasy sports of any kind, it's really easy to pick up. You don't have to be a hockey guru to do well. A lot of times people come in and clean up the first time they play.

5. We've got 6 teams... the more the better! We have 14 more spots open
Edited on Tue Aug-23-05 01:04 PM by Oreo
We can have as many as 20 teams. Larger leagues are better in that the big name players are more evenly distributed and you have to rely on some 3rd and 4th liners.

6. I hate autopick drafts
I always end up with crap becuase I always forget to take the time to go through the lists, and even then it doesn't do it the way I'd like.

anyway I'm in. I'll PM you.

I haven't done fantasy hockey in a couple years because I always got grouped up with jerks or people who had like 3 teams, and then did trades to have a super team.

7. That sucks
It's easy for 1 or 2 people to ruin an entire league... all it takes is for somebody to stop playing entirely. I stopped playing in public leagues on yahoo because of that.

The rankings are going to be tough this year... there's no way of knowing how the big name players will work out on their new teams.

8. I know
I almost started pre-ranking immediatley but wasn't sure what to do. Brodeur is listed number 1, but do I want to take him first? no. I don't think there is too much doubt as far as how the system will be to take him so early.

That's another reason I hate auto-drafts. I can't judge my draft based on what other people are doing. If I move my goalies low, and everyone else puts goalies high, then I can get screwed. I like to be in there for live drafts, and watch who gets picked so that I know "oh...goalie time..." and pick the highest remaining goalie I like....stuff like that.

9. 6 Teams signed up with 5 more on the way!
We've already had 6 teams sign up and there are 5 others that want in. We have 9 more slots after that. It's great to see this much interest.

I've received from the Fantasy Hockey folks, and I sure don't understand this whole autopick draft thingy. Anybody want to explain it?

11. You bet
The draft happens via a computer. You don't sit there round to round making your picks. You go in before the draft and essentially rank the players. They have a set ranking in there and you essentially adjust it. REmove players you don't want to draft, drop players lower in the rankings, etc.

When the draft happens it fills up the slots on your team by taking the highest player on your list to fill up positions.

It's not the best way to do it imho, but it makes it easier when not everyone can show up for the draft itself. I still have to go in and adjust my rankings. No way do I want Brodeur to be my number 1 pick

12. And will this "adjusting the rankings" be apparent...
when I log on to the site? I'd like to be able to just go right in and do it and not have to ask you guys 3 times how to do it. Thanks for all your help to this point, BTW.

13. Once you find it
look for a link called 'edit my pre-rankings' and after that it's pretty obvious how to work it.
