Hossa for Heatley!! Wow!
Edited on Tue Aug-23-05 03:14 PM by Oreo
The Atlanta Thrashers have called a 5pm et press conference where they are expected to announce that the team has acquired Marian Hossa and a defenceman from the Ottawa Senators for forward Dany Heatley. Heatley, drafted second overall by the Atlanta Thrashers in 2000, has 80 goals and 181 points in 190 career games. His best season thus far came in 2002-03, when he set career highs in goals (41) and points (89).

1. Wonder why Ottawa had to give up a defenceman...
Seems like a straight up deal to me! I'm sure Heatly is still healing from the tragedy, but he's a great one.

2. It had to be hard on him...

He made a huge mistake and it killed his friend. I'm sure a new start in a new city will help him some. He's an amazing player and I hope he regains what he showed at the 02-03 All Star game

I had heard the Sens were shopping Redden... wonder if they still are?

3. ARe they over a barrel with the salary cap?
Also from what i'm reading Heatley requested a move.

We'll know soon enough but I read Hossa and maybe Phillips for Heatley. I don't know what to make of this trade if these are the factors.

First of all I think any team getting either side of that is getting good players. Heatley is an up and coming star and has massive potential. Hossa is a proven player who is going to give you a ton of points.

However I don't know that I'd pick up a contract with Hossa that the third year would cost 7 million. That seems high for Hossa.

I don't know how much of this is just Ottawa not being able to aford Hossa anymore, but likeing the idea of bringing in Heatley. Say what you want about the Senators, but I think they've proven they know young talent.

4. Hossa AND Phillips?
No way I'd make that deal if I were the Sens. Maybe a draft pick with Hossa, but that's all. Heatley must have wanted a change of scenery, big time. Can't blame him. And I find it hard to believe that the Sens are giving up on Phillips, or Redden, for that matter. Of course in this new age of the NHL, we won't know up from down for awhile.

5. Greg de Vries
not Phillips.

3 years 13.5 million for Heatley with Ottwawa

Atlanta gets de Vries and Hossa.
