Poll question: NFL Season - FINAL WEEKEND - 4 Playoff Spots OPEN, 9 Teams in the HUNT
Edited on Tue Dec-28-04 06:31 AM by Champ
It's the final weekend of a long NFL Regular Season, some teams are pretty much in the only thing they have to focus on is staying healthy, some are neck and neck for playoff positioning, others just have personal pride and draft positioning to play for.

AFC East
D-New England 13-2 AFC 10-2 Div 5-1
Ny Jets 10-5 AFC 7-5 Div 3-3
Buffalo 9-6 AFC 5-6 Div 3-3
-Miami-

North
H-Pittsburgh 14-1 AFC 10-1 Div 5-1
Baltimore 8-7 AFC 5-6 Div 3-3
-Cincinnati-
-Cleveland-

South
D-Indianapolis 12-3 AFC 8-3 Div 5-1
Jacksonville 8-7 AFC 5-6 Div 2-4
-Houston-
-Tennessee-

West
D-San Diego 11-4 AFC 8-3 Div 4-1
Denver 9-6 AFC 6-5 Div 3-3
-Kansas City-
-Oakland-

Playoffs started today first round byes: Pittsburgh, New England.
Wild Card Matuchup #6 Denver @ #3 Indianapolis
Wild Card Matchup #5 New York(A) @ #4 San Diego

The ones in the hunt are
Buffalo (9-6)
Jacksonville (8-7)
Baltimore (8-7)
Tiebreaker: Denver gets in over Buffalo based on better conference record. Here is what will need to happen to clinch a playoff berth for AFC teams that are in the hunt.

New York: Win and they're in. If they fail to win they would clinch with a loss from either Denver or Buffalo.

Denver: Win and they're in. If they fail to win, they will need losses from Buffalo, Jacksonville, and Baltimore. Denver would have the tiebreaker based on what I stated earlier.

Buffalo: Bills could get in based on 2 scenarios, #1 Buffalo wins, Denver loses. #2 Buffalo wins, Denver wins, NY Jets lose. Buffalo would have tiebreaker over New York based on record vs common teams.

Jacksonville: Win and need losses from Denver and Buffalo. Would win 3-way tie with Denver and Buffalo based on better strength of victory, would win 4-way tie with Baltimore thrown in the mix based on better strength of schedule and/or victory.

Baltimore: Could clinch with a win and losses from Jacksonville, Buffalo, and Denver. They would win a 3-way tiebreaker over Denver and Buffalo based on better strength of victory.

This weekend's matchups that feature teams that are alive in the Playoff positioning.(I was 6-0 in my AFC picks last week, 9-5 overall)
-Miami- @ (8-7)Baltimore(MW) (Baltimore)
(14-2)Pittsburgh @ (9-6)Buffalo(MW) (Buffalo)*
(12-3)Indianapolis @ (9-6)Denver (Denver)*
-Kansas City- @ (11-4)San Diego (San Diego)
(10-5)NY Jets @ (NC)St Louis (New York)
(NC)San Francisco @ (13-2)New England (NE)
(8-6)Jacksonville(MW) @ -Oakland- (Jacksonville)

-------------------------------------------------------------
NFC East
H-Philadelphia 13-2 NFC 11-1 Div 6-0
-Dallas-
-Ny Giants-
-Washington-

North
D-Green Bay 9-6 NFC 8-3 Div 4-1
Minnesota 8-6 NFC 5-7 Div 3-3
-Detroit-
-Chicago-

South
D-Atlanta 11-4 NFC 8-3 Div 4-2
Carolina 7-8 NFC 6-5 Div 3-2
New Orleans 7-8 NFC 5-6 Div 2-3
-Tampa Bay-

West
P-Seattle 8-7 NFC 7-4 Div 3-3
St. Louis 7-8 NFC 7-5 Div 5-1
-Arizona-
-San Francisco-

Playoffs started today first round byes: Philadelphia, Atlanta
Wild Card Matchup: #6 Carolina @ #3 Green Bay
Wild Card Matchup: #5 Minnesota @ #4 Seattle
Atleast a below .500 team won't make the playoffs this year
In the hunt
New Orleans (7-8)
St Louis (7-8)
Tiebreaker:Carolina holds tiebreakers over New Orleans and St Louis based on head-to-head victories. Here is what will need to happen to clinch a playoff berth for NFC teams that are in the hunt.

Minnesota: Win and they're in. The only way they cannot make the playoffs is for the following to happen: Vikings lose, Carolina defeats New Orleans, and St Louis defeats the Jets. Would lose 3-way tiebreaker because both Carolina and St Louis would have a better conference record.

Carolina: Win and need losses from St Louis or Minnesota, or a Seattle victory. Would only be left out from wins from St Louis and Minnesota, and a Seattle loss.

New Orleans: Win and need a win from Seattle or a St Louis loss.

St. Louis: Can win NFC West with a win and a loss from Seattle. Can clinch a wildcard spot with a win and a Seattle victory and Minnesota loss. St Louis would tie-break over Minnesota based on better conference record.

This weekend's matchups that feature teams that are alive for Playoff positioning.(2-6 last week, 7-10 overall)
-Cincinnati- @ (13-2)Philadelphia (Philly)
(7-8)New Orleans(MW) @ (7-8)Carolina(MW) (New Orleans)**
(11-4)Atlanta @ (7-8)Seattle (Atlanta)*
(9-6)Green Bay @ -Chicago- (Green Bay)
(8-7)Minnesota @ -Washington- (Minnesota)
(NC)NY Jets @ (7-8)St Louis(MW) (New York)

-For reference
H = Home field advantage through Conference Playoff
D = Division Winner
P = Clinched Playoff Berth
Bold = Team alive for playoff contention
-Line- = Team eliminated from playoff contention
(MW) = Must Win - Team with (MW) next to them means they can't make the playoffs with a loss in any possible scenario.
* = Game that features a playoff bound team facing a playoff bound team within the same conference.
** = Same as above but also a must win game for both teams.
(NC) = Non-conference opponent.

Check Last Week's Thread to see how much has changed.
--------------------------------Poll Question-------------------
Which game showcases the biggest must watch matchup of the Final Weekend? (# is current playoff spot, #1-6 would be in playoffs if season ended today) My vote goes to NO v Carolina, both teams CAN'T lose under any circumstance. Expect a 110% effort from both teams fighting to extend their season. However, the Indianapolis vs Denver is the only must watch matchup for me.

Thanks to SportsNetwork for all possible playoff clinching scenarios.

4. Could Carolina be the first 8-8 team in the Super Bowl?
The team is hot, and the NFC is not, with Philly and Atlanta facing injury time. Carolina may be the most dangerous team in the NFC.
