USA wins Little League World Series!!
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/llws05/news/story?id=2145431&CMP=OTC-DT9705204233

With the game tied in extra innings, a tiring reliever on the mound and the Little League World Series championship on the line, Michael Memea had a simple plan: make contact.

West Oahu of Ewa Beach, Hawaii had already completed a stunning comeback Sunday over the defending champions from Willemstad, Curacao, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game.

Now here was Memea at the plate in the bottom of the seventh with nobody on and nobody out.

No matter: Memea lined a pitch over the center-field wall to give Hawaii a 7-6 win, the first game-ending home run in a Little League championship game.

1. Three cheers for those youngsters
That was quite a comeback for the lads from Hawaii. The young men from Curacao should be applauded as well. They are a very good little league team. So Hip Hip Hooray for both teams, as well as all the other teams in the LLWS.

2. Needless to say this has dominated local news
I couldn't even get a Katrina update this morning since all the channels had wall-to-wall baseball!

We've been promised a full-on rally, perhaps this weekend (no Duck boats, though; it's not like it's been 86 years or anything!)

Local news coverage here:

This is obviously huge in a place with no pro sports, and only one college team which is firmly mired in a mid-major.

3. Congratulations to both teams.
It's funny. When that kid came up to bat, he was 0 for 3 that day, with two strike outs. I would have pinch hit for him, and here he hits the game winning homer!
I felt really bad for the Curaco kids who were crying after the game. They really have a lot to be proud of, although I'm sure the hurt will last awhile.
