Spurs/Heat to play Katrina benefit game |
|
http://www.hoopsworld.com/article_14122.shtmlThe Miami Heat, the World Champion San Antonio Spurs, the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association today announced their plans to stage an exhibition game between the Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The game will be played in Miami at the AmericanAirlines Arena on Monday, October 10, 2005 at 7:30PM, and will feature several up-close and personal experiences for fans. Prior to the game, players will greet fans at the door and following the contest, fans will have the opportunity to get some of their favorite player's autographs. To generate the largest possible contribution, all tickets will be sold at the 2005-06 regular season individual game ticket prices, with Heat Season Ticket Holders receiving the first opportunity to purchase tickets. This should bring in some good money to help out.

2. A lot of NBA players and teams have been helping out |
|
I've lost track of all the NBA folks donating significant amounts of money or assisting in fundraisers to help Katrina survivors. Many of the donors have LA/MS connections, but not all.
But the next time an NBA player says or does something stupid, or the next time Team USA loses in international competition, you can bet the "greedy, spoiled NBA athlete" narrative will gear up again from the usual uninformed sources ...

The same people who bitch about the "greedy, spoiled NBA athlete" are the same people who bitched about the Spurs-Pistons Final because it was two solid, non-flashy teams with presumably not enough greedy spolied NBA athletes.
