WaPo: Bruised Knee May Put Roethlisberger on Bench
Mark Maske
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, September 16, 2005; 10:51 AM

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was limited during the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice Thursday by a bone bruise in his knee.

Roethlisberger had sat out Wednesday's practice, but the Steelers had expected him to practice fully Thursday and play Sunday at Houston. He did little Thursday, though, and that leaves open the possibility that Tommy Maddox might start against the Texans.

Roethlisberger has a 14-0 regular-season record as an NFL starter. He took over when Maddox got hurt in the second game of last season, and hasn't relinquished the job since.

Maddox did start the last year's regular-season finale at Buffalo, with Roethlisberger plagued by a rib injury and the Steelers having already wrapped up home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. But Roethlisberger returned to start the team's two playoff games, including a loss to the New England Patriots in the AFC championship . . . .

1. Uh oh...
Yes I am a Bills fan...and I live in Pittsburgh...so as much as I hate to say it...my heart is black and gold...and if Maddox plays against Houston on Sunday...we may be in trouble...Last time these two teams hooked up and Maddox was starting he had one of the worst games possible to have against a team like the Texans...he threw for over three hundred yards...but threw two INTs (both returned for TDs) and had one fumble and was sacked six times...Get better Big Ben...we need ya!

3. Big Ben's a young man, he'll heal fast :-)
In the meantime, we can only hope that "Tommy Gun" Maddox still has enough juice left in him to pull out a win for the Stillers.

5. If by juice you mean booze you're right on the money.
I have this theory that Maddox is piss drunk on the sidelines for evey game. They only keep him cuz he walks around making the players laugh. Keeps the mood lite ya know? :D

6. Outstanding!
Do you think maybe Coach Cowher's decision to start "Tommy Gun", may have been a catalyst in motivating Big Ben? ;)
