Any other CONFUSED Red Sox Fans? I'm looking FORWARD to this season!
It's strange, but the usual dread isn't there anymore, and I can't wait for spring training!

It's a new feeling, and I'm lovin' it! :)

1. Confused?
As a displaced Sox fan...

No way am I confused! I never dreaded the season (maybe I was too young). After last October (2003), I realized how awesome it was, and couldn't wait for October 2004. I was looking forward to the 04 season, just as I am now.

Go Sox!

(BTW I'm also known as "ivebeentruped" on redsoxnation.net)

2. Welcome to DU--I'm probably a lot older than you...I've been through
so much heartache with them that I was convinced they would never win it while I was alive! I really think young/younger people don't quite understand the history of all this.

Anyway, now that they finally have won it all, I can enjoy the games without the nagging feeling in the back of my mind that the curse will somehow re-assert itself!

3. Feeling good ever since Heaven
I still get high off of 'The Red Sox Rapture', from last fall. I am a little worried about the starting pitching (Ahm, when am I not worried about the starting pitching) but I am just looking forward to a next season. Imagine, no curses, no idiotic stories about trying to raise Babe Ruth's piano, no witches from Salem uncursing Fenway! Just baseball and beautiful Fenway and hope, not dread. Should be a glorious season. (So, when does the van leave for Florida anyway?)

4. Yeah, and even if they don't win it this year, or even do well, you can
just chalk it up to the letdown from winning it all--happens to most sports teams, that's why so few repeat. Yup, it's just letdown and NOT a curse!

5. 2090 . . .
that's 86 years from 2004 . . . and very likely the next time the Red Sox will win a World Series . . . they didn't break the curse . . . the Babe just gave them a little gift to ease their suffering a bit . . .

don't get upset, now . . . just yankin' the Bostonian chains here . . . I'm a Yankee fan, and it's fun . . . and a hard habit to break . . . not that I have any intention of breaking it, mind you . . . :)

Let me know scoreboard when you guys scoreboard manage to overcome scoreboard being the team scoreboard that pulled off scoreboard the biggest choke job scoreboard in the history scoreboard of sport scoreboard.

See you on opening day, when the Sox get their rings in front of the Yankees, and the chants come raining down.

CHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKERRRRRRRRRRRRS

CHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKERRRRRRRRRRRRS

CHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKERRRRRRRRRRRRS

:)

I think you guys will win the next Series, btw. You have the proper motivation this time. A-Rod needs a new handbag.

17. you give your team too little credit . . .
one way of looking at it is that, yes indeed, the Yankees choked . . .

the other way of looking at it is that, yes indeed, the Red Sox kicked our asses . . . and in a way that we'll always remember . . .

cheers . . . :)

7. From now on

I get to enjoy baseball for what it is instead of what it could be. 'What it could be' happened.

Think of the 2001 Pats. A Hollywood scriptwriter could not have come up with a better story. The same goes for the Sox last year, but x1000.

I'm looking forward to seeing how well Wells does in Fenway. We still have the big bats and the untouchable bullpen. We'll be in it, but at the end of the day, I'm just going to be watching baseball.

:)

11. Yeah, who woulda thought you could actually "enoy" watching a game?
It will be much more relaxing this year, and any dumbheaded plays I'll just chalk up to dumbheaded playes, and not be thinking that the curse is re-asserting itself! :)

9. Yeah--there is a missing weight when I think about...
the '05 season. No matter how much I tried to deny it in the past, the "curse" was always there, lurking in the shadows, mocking my faith, laughing at my pain. The "curse" was real in the same way Santa Claus is real; it existed because enough people believed it existed.

The '04 Red Sox, that bunch of idiots, dragged the "curse" out into the sunlight and exposed it for the feeble boogie-man it had always been, more shadow than substance, nothing but the lingering aftertaste of victory denied, a sad remnant of old, shattered dreams.

I got "Faith Rewarded" (the NESN highlight DVD of the '04 postseason) for Christmas. When I watched it, I became choked with emotion watching Game 4 of the ALCS, Mariano Rivera was on the mound, and Posada's throw was a nanosecond late, and Dave Roberts stole second base. This time, watching it, I KNEW that the tide had turned, that the past was the past, that the old ghosts were dead, and that the future lay spread out before us with the promise of baseball and warm summer evenings and the Red Sox no longer haunted by the specter of what used to be.

Life is good and all things are possible. Go Sox!

10. Hey, I got "Faith Rewarded" also!
It is strange seeing that knowing what the ooutcome is gonna be--but it still gives me chills!

BTW, don't get the MLB official series dvd also as long as you have the NESN one. I have both, and there's a lot of overlap between the two--same footage, same interviews, etc.

12. Screw that, I got both.
After the Pats won the 2001 Super Bowl, my friend Eric looked at me and said, "Now we get to be the ones who buy the video." Funny as hell, and true.

13. Some people may be on a budget!
Don't you think both are very similar? The first half of the MLB one is depressing--they go on and on and on and on about the curse, and about how it didn't look good for the Red Sox most of the season. Hell, you after watching that 30 minutes, I started to wonder if they really did win it all!

magazines!

16. Yeah---thanks, I have seen the MLB version....
(one of my friends got it immediately) I'm happy with the NESN version, but, who knows, if the MLB version shows up on a bargain table at some discount store a few months from now, I may cough up a few bucks just to have it as a memento.

Seriously though, the memories alone are sweet enough to savor for a long, long time. Any souvenirs or mementos that I may acquire are only the tasty sprinkles on top of the sundae.

The World Champion Boston Red Sox (I will never get tired of writing or saying that phrase.)

Why not? Must be at least a whole week since I've seen them!
