Report: Jets QB Chad Pennington out for season
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2172700

since this is his second such injury, and in the same manner as the first one, does this mean his career is likely over? there are few baseball pitchers, and no football QBs that i know of, that have come back from one, never mind 2 torn rotator cuffs.

a saddened jet fan

peace

2. no it isnt
especially since they will have to probably sign two QBs this week, such illustrious names as johnathan quinn, Doug Johnson and jesse palmer were in camp today trying out.

i think i'd rather have vinnie testaverde than eitehr of those two. or maybe quincy carter if is clean and sober.

any one know of any better free agent QBs out there?

3. yeah, his career is over
He was never strong-armed to begin with. Now he can't even make a 30-yard out.

Hell, he has to give it all he has to make a 15-yard out.

He's got the strength of an average high school quarterback.

If I were the Jets I'd be on the phone with San Diego and inquiring as to what it would take to pry either Drew Breeze or Philip Rivers from them.

This season is over. At least it happened quick this time, no heartbreakc in the playoffs. Frankly, I think we'll be lucky to win 4 games.

I say we're 3-13. Hopefully we'll end up with the top draft pick and take that QB from USC.

4. top QBs
to get Philip Rivers probably will cost a first round pick and we have no idea what he will be like, as he hasnt started a game yet. Drew Brees after last season would probably cost 2 1st round picks. (anyone know when the football trading deadline is?)

5. And you really have to fault the Jets for letting him play last year
Edited on Tue Sep-27-05 09:53 AM by soleft
he tore his rotary cuff in November - missed three games and finished out the season.

if he had gone in for surgery in November he'd have done less damage and would have had more time to recoup.

Obviously Pennington is a grown up and responsible for his own actions, but the Jets totally ruined their investment in a franchise qb by rushing him back.

Now I'm glad John Abraham didn't make the same mistake.

6. The Jets have made a series of horrible player decisions
Starting with pushing back Pennington's surgery to February. Then they let LaMont Jordan go and kept Curtis Martin, who probably won't get 800 yards this year. Then they traded their 1st round draft pick for Doug Jolley, a tight end who has caught exactly ONE pass in the first three games.

Terry Bradway, the GM, is a good guy, but he's had a horrible year.

At the very least, the Chad Pennington era is over, which is good. Now we can go out and get a real QB, one with a strong arm. Now all we need is:

A quarterback.
A runningback.
A left tackle.
A right tackle.
A go-to wide receiver.
A defensive tackle.

We get those holes filled, we'll be in good shape....by 2008.

<sigh>

8. his career is pretty much done
One rotator cup injury/operation is bad enough, and I'm sure ou saw his less than snappy passes throughout the preseason and first 2 weeks. A second injury on the same shoulder? I hate to say this, but his career's over. His arm will never be the same passing wise. A damn shame too, he's a nice guy.
