1. Indians/Marlins was phenominal.
Seven games, extra innings in the 7th. Edgar Renteria, earning a clutch reputation with about his brazillionth GW-hit in the playoffs. Livan Hernandez launching himself into the public consciousness in much the same way Josh Beckett would a few years later.

Great series. :)

3. Why do you hate baseball and America?
j/k
Us Cub fans are the peanut gallery when it comes to post WWII World Series. '94 may as well be my favorite too!

4. 1985
My beloved Royals beat the nasty Cards in the I70 series. The Cards were so pissed!

9. The 1991 series was very cool
Both teams went worst to first to get there! And Jack Morris' pitching was non other than spectacular.

I'm Totally Biased, but this is my BIG THRILL and I'm stickin by it even if it's all I ever get as a baseball fan. We did it. We will find a way to do it again.

11. During a total lunar eclipse, no less!
Even if they don't win again for andother 86 years (bite my tongue!), that will always be the best series for me. ALWAYS

(This is an AP photo from a bar in Amherst, MA, that glorious night!)

8. Buckner would not have beaten Mookie to the bag...
had he fielded it cleanly.

The pitcher, Stanley, didn't break towards the bag. HE's the chump, not Buckner.

10. Schiraldi blew it earlier in the game
The one time I ever rooted for the Red Sox I got burned. You Sox fans are the ultimate masochists.

12. True, but remember the winning run
scored from SECOND base on the play. If Buckner grabs the ball, Knight holds at third, the score is still tied and the Sox still have a chance. The blame should be shared by the two.

16. So many goats for that game
McNamera for having a crippled Buckner play first in that situation, Schiraldi for serving up batting practice singles to Gary Carter, Kevin Mitchell, and Ray Knight, Stanley for not breaking towards the bag.

Have to give the Mets a lot of credit, especially Gary Carter for starting the rally. He walked up to the plate with nothing but Total Purpose in his face -- to get on base.

17. Here's what Buckner said yesterday...

Buckner says spare A-Rod
BY MICHAEL O'KEEFFE

Despite a quite respectable career ... Buckner will forever be remembered as the guy who let Mookie Wilson's grounder squirt through his legs in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series, the error that ultimately allowed the Mets to steal the championship from the long-suffering Boston Red Sox.

"So many people were rude or obnoxious about it," said Buckner. "They wouldn't let it go away. I was a little bitter about it for a year or two. People would be great about it, and then someone would say something. It was hard on me. It was even harder on my family."

Buckner eventually learned to embrace his role in baseball history. On Saturday, he signed autographs with Wilson at a New Jersey memorabilia shop. "With Mookie, it's fun. He's a friend," Buckner said.

Buckner took the rap for the Red Sox's 1986 collapse, but it really was a team effort. With two outs in the 10th inning and Boston up 5-3, reliever Calvin Schiraldi gave up three big hits that allowed the Mets to narrow the gap. Schiraldi's replacement, Bob Stanley, threw a wild pitch that let Kevin Mitchell score and tie the game.

13. 1991, 1993, 2001
are the top ones that I have seen - I picked the 2001 one, just because I was on the edge of my seat that whole 7th game.

14. If the Cubs ever make the W.S. then it'll be the best ever
Until then, 1975. That Series had everything, including Johnny Bench getting struck out on a supposedly intentional walk. For sheer excitement and drama, that was the best in my lifetime (since 1957). Carter's walk off Series winning homer was one great moment, but overall, that Series could not match the excitement and drama of 1975, Reds and Red Sox.

15. Best World Series I've series: 1991; best WS GAME: 1986, Game Six
Almost every game in the 1991 series was a classic. But the ultimate World Series game would have to be game six of the 1986 series.

As far as Championship series - it would be hard to top both the ACLS and the NCLS of 1986.

18. I agree completely. The '91 series and the 86 playoffs and game six.
At least for my lifetime.

No doubt Bucs vs. Yankees was really amazin' too!

Still angry at the strikers, the steroids, the juiced balls, and all that. (I'm a traditionalist).
