Only NY Jets Fans Could Be Upset That Their Team MADE The Playoffs

I was on a Jets message board during the game against St. Louis today and you'd be amazed at what people were saying.

They were actually rooting for the team to lose and for Buffalo to win so the Jets would be knocked out of playoff contention.

Why?

So offensive coordinator Paul Hackett would be fired. They were scared that if the Jets made the playoffs that Hackett would be retained.

They are terrified that the team could actually defeat San Diego next week because that would almost guarantee that he would return next year.

We scored 13 points on offense today against one of the poorer defenses in the league. Once again, we played with all the aggression of a sedated snail.

Only Jets fans could root for their own team to lose. But I can't say I disagree with their logic. The best case scenario is that the Jets make the SuperBowl and Hackett gets canned anyway.

I am a member of Jets Insider, and the negativity on the board is both abundant and appaling. Jets fans, fans of one of the most historically futile teams in the NFL, still bitch and moan about making the playoffs. While the loss today sucked, and Paul Hackett REALLY sucks, I'm still happy we're in.

3. Another analogy

Once I saw that the 49ers season was toast this year, I rooted for them to lose the most so they would get the top draft choice. In the long run, it's the best strategy.

If your team manages to get through the first round, we will destroy them in Foxboro so thoroughly that Hackett will never be able to show his face in civilized society again. Both problems solved.
