7. Ump still blew the call |
|
But I don't blame Pierzynski one bit.. he did what he thought he needed to do and it fell in his favor.
Still a bad call by the ump . . but I don't blame Pierzynski for taking a shot and gaining from it.

I guess if it clears the (golf)tee it's a strike.
Ugh
On edit: I thought you were talking about the home plate ump who lost his eyesight during the NL game.

5. Complete shame. The home plate ump > |

should be disciplined, or whatever it is the lords of baseball do to the weak-minded and lame among their umpiring crews.
Couldn't Soscia have played the game under protest?

6. He caught the ball! Here is the rule for those who are confused: |
|
6.09 The batter becomes a runner when ... (b) the third strike called by the umpire is not caught, providing (1) first base is unoccupied, or (2) first base is occupied with two out.
"When a batter becomes a base runner on a third strike not caught by the catcher and starts for the dugout, or his position, and then realizes his situation and attempts to reach first base, he is not out unless he or first base is tagged before he reaches first base. If, however, he actually reaches the dugout or dugout steps, he may not then attempt to go to first base and shall be out."

17. Problem with that is that the ball was caught..... |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-12-05 10:55 PM by truebrit71
..the ump signalled no contact and then rang him up, hence no need for the tag...
The ball was clearly caught, if the ump thinks that the ball hit the ground first he is supposed to say "No catch", at which point the catcher then either tags the hitter, or throws to first base.
Either way the ump fucked up a HUGE call, and the Black Sux were gifted a win.
The ONLY person that comes out of this with any sort of kudos is Mike Socsia who when given the opportunity never threw the crappy, blind, inept and totally fucking useless ump under the bus...even though the press were trying to get him to do just that..
Oh, and the umps that gave their press conference acted so much like smug, self-satisfied republicans afterwards, that I am SURE they know they completely blew the situation...hell even the batter started back to the dugout...
Completely pathetic situation, makes baseball look stupid, robs a potential 2-0 series lead for the Angels, and gifts the Black Sux a win they absolutely didn't deserve..
Never mind, the Halo's will win in 6 instead of 5...

We should just let the hitters decide whether it is a ball or a strike.
And the outfielders decide whether it is fair or foul.
NO MORE UMPIRES!!
