Brett Hull retires: Report

GLENDALE, Ariz. (CP) — Deciding he could not perform the way he wanted, sniper Brett Hull decided to retire Saturday, a source told The Canadian Press. Hull and the Phoenix Coyotes were to make the announcement at an 8 p.m. ET news conference.

Hull, 41, third all-time in NHL history with 741 goals, first broached the subject with Coyotes head coach Wayne Gretzky and GM Mike Barnett after Thursday nightÂ’s 5-4 shootout loss to the Nashville Predators, according to the source.

Gretzky and Barnett told Hull to take a day or two to mull it over before making a final decision. Hull met with Barnett and Gretzky on Saturday morning and told them he was indeed going to retire.

Hull has registered one assist in five games this season with Phoenix.
