The great thing about College Football, on TV,
is the fans. The sheer volume of noise they make gets your heart pumping. If you are a fan of the visitor you go O'Reilly-esq shouting at the TV: SHUT UP! SHUT UP!

Tell me the ND fans didn't make a BF'in differance today. jeezus they were stoked.

Nothing beats being at the game.

YOU watch an NFL game tomorrow on the tube and tell me it's anywhere near as fun to watch as a fan. You can hardly hear anything above the voice of the announcers or the thump of a good hit.

More and more the pro game is a good time for a nap.

1. I live about 20 miles from the Florida State Stadium
and have been to quite a few games. I don't do the steps so well anymore because of a knee problem. But outside when the wind is just right I SWEAR I can hear the crowd! (I know I really can't..) I heard somewhere on the TV today that crowd noise at one college actually registered as a minor earthquake on the geology dept. seismograph!

Supposedly people living around the stadium in the 50s fled their homes as they rattled, afraid that Baton Rouge was experiencing earth tremors.

I was also part of the record crowd at Tiger Stadium yesterday- 92,402.

a.k.a. The Swamp!

No place can compare for pure noise and excitement. When a Tennessee, Florida State, or LSU comes into town, there is nothing like it. Everyone is on their feet for 3+ hours screaming, cheering, rooting for the Gators. See you guys in a month.

2. Sorry, I just can't get into watchin 42-17 games where the crowd is
screaming for even more blood against a team with no chance to win. You watch maybe two good games a season, and the rest are blowouts. I'll stick to the pros. I might nap during the third quarter, but at least I have some interest in even watching it.

4. I didn't see any of those games today.
I saw my Minnesota Gophers absolutly kick the game away (literally) today in the last seconds (someday they will have their own stadium and not that piece of crap metrodome).

I saw my Oregon State Beavers pull out an upset win against the Cal Bears in Strawberry Canyon.

I watched the ToeJams Leinart dig deep within himself and win that goddam game at ND.

Maybe tomorrow i'll get stuck watching regional telecasts of the freakin' seahawks or the freakin' raiders.

Wheee.

Shhhhh. don't wake up the peeps in the luxury boxes. If you put a gun to my head and made me put money down on the games I could give a shit, I'd probably just wait for the Monday morning paper.. or watch Neck-car.

5. Unless you taped it
NASCAR ran tonight.

But I agree with ya, college football is more exciting. TV timeouts have made pro ball almost boring. Do we really need a timeout after kick?

Loudest stadium in the nation. Admit it. I know it will pain you to do so, Twillig, but admit it.

11. Fo rme, college games are nap time.
Geeze, I didn't even bother watching the end of the UT game, and that's my alma mater. How someone can get excited watching one team made up of students a step away from the pros beat up some team of players barely out of high school is beyond me.

Those loud fans made me give up on the game when they cheered when the team winning 40 something to teen something sacked the other QB. Wow. That was exciting.

Give me the pros, anytime. College football is like pro wrestling. Eighty percent of it is decided by recruiting.

17. College games define entire eras and regions
The rosters are basically home grown. It's infinitely more interesting than pro games where you can lose 5 or 6 games a year and still qualify for the playoffs, with a random roster comprised of players from every region. Even the pro rivalries are comparatively meaningless, via the basics that most rivalries are interdivision and therefore you play twice a year, and not the ultra significant one-and-done bragging rights for an entire year.

Still, the college game is becoming too much like the pros in one pathetic respect: copycatting. Instead of the proper variety of offensive schemes, I'm now watching dozens of games every week with both teams in wimpy spread offenses taking snaps from the shotgun.

19. Whatever happened to the running back?
or are they like the tight end (who have made a comeback in the last 5 years) all playing in the NBa???

I remember when being the running back was THE position. Growing up all the big stars (save for a few QB's) were running backs and RB's won the Heisman every year.

"Don't you miss the big time boy?
You no longer run the ball"
-Lennon "Watching the Wheels"

Anyway-it is cheaper and easier to throw the ball now. the Off.Line doesn't get worn down and everyone gets SportsCenter moments.

The Veer offense?

18. "Flutie died for our sins"
SLightly off topic but sitting around on Saturday morning I have caught several unique and hilarious signs behind the ESPN game day guys.

At the BC-Fla.State game in Mass

"Flutie died for our sins"-that has to be the all time classic

"George Bush does not care about Florida State"-this was the day after the telethon thing

Someone had a dry erase board and kept changing their message- behind Herbstreit "I hate ND"

in Austin this weekend I saw two that made me laugh

"Lubbock has no trees" - I don't know why but that is just funny

and finally a big thought bubble behind Herbstreit (BTW the ladies LOVE Herbstreit)

"I'm not wearing any pants"

The Flutie one is still tops in my book.
