JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) -- Adidas said it will not require Arkansas State basketball player Jerry Nichols to wear its shoes, but hopes that he will accept an offer to look through its footwear collection in an attempt to find a suitable product.

''We're going to meet with him and try to reach a solution,'' Kelly Olmstead, a spokeswoman for Portland, Ore.-based Adidas, said Thursday. ''But we're not coming down there to tell him that he has to wear our shoes.''

Nichols said he suffered an injury in Adidas shoes and wants to wear Nike shoes while playing for the Indians. Arkansas State has a contract with Adidas, and athletic director Dean Lee told Nichols he had to wear the footwear. Nichols has skipped practices since Monday.

1. Looking For More Money?
Do you think this kid my be looking for more money in the future? It seems to me that most people would think they just got the injury because they themselves did something wrong. It seems to me that most people would not blame the shoe brand if the shoe cost more than fifty dollars. I think most Adidas shoes cost more than fifty dollars. I also read in a running magazine that any shoe over about fifty dollars will do just fine no matter the brand.

2. There is a real issue with fit
Whether the shoes caused or contributed to his injury I have no way of knowing. I do know however, that I've never found a pair of Adidas shoes that fit me right. I used to run regularly and I used to sell shoes. As a consequence I had the opportunity to try many different pairs of shoes and I could never find a pair of Adidas that fit right.

Adidas makes plenty of good shoes, but it could be that none fit him right.

3. superstitions
All athletes are superstitious to some degree, blowing out your knee is so random that people will look for anything to explain it and prevent it happening again.
