Texas is the best team I've seen this year so far.
They are dominating Texas Tech at the half. Hard to choose between the undefeateds, but my vote goes to UT.

:P

I'm just hoping we have four or five undefeated teams so the BS blows up again this year...

8. I dunno, it's an old story, never seen it verified
Bush applied to grad school at UT and they rejected him, so he went to Harvard instead. I've heard it said a lot, but I don't know if it's true. Doesn't stop me from repeating it. What good is living in Texas if you can't tell a tall one now and then, eh? :-)

13. Man. The guy IS amoral, isn't he?
He probably didn't do well on his LSAT. From what I've been told, the exam tests one's ability to reason logically AND ethically.

It doesn't surprise me that he failed.

I graduated from Texas in 1997. Even in recent years, from what I understand, its educational standards have grown as has the institution. I'm proud to be a Longhorn :)

He wanted to be one but couldn't cut it.

He will still crow if UTA wins because he was the governor of Texas and his daughter went there.

Like CU Boulder is referred to as... CU.

22. Except of course when you are emphasizing which campus you mean
For instance, in my case, one degree is from UT Dallas and one from UT, in Austin, so it is often necessary to emphasize UT D or UT, Austin.

It's a weak connection, but I always feel compelled to try to relate. :-)

On the other hand, I'm trying to write a novel. Well, actually, at the moment I seem to be trying to do everything BUT write my novel. But since you are "writer," it's a connection. :-)

27. Please don't compare UT with CU in any way.
UT is a very good school. At CU they major in snow, and I don't mean the H2O kind.

Besides, it is call the University of Colorado. So why is it referred to as CU and not UC, as in UCHHH!.

Yeah it's not UT, but it's been a good experience so far!

And no... I'm not majoring in snow... of any variety ;)

CU/OU have the same problem. They came around too late and became confused with other schools, therefore, they had to change their abbreviations.

OU? I say P-U ;)

Hell, they refer to themselves as UTA on their own website
http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/qr/copyright.html
The University of Texas at Austin (UTA) Limited Software License

I even found an article discussing Arlington's desire to change its logo because of the confusion:
With the logo variations, the administration has considered designing one that says UT-Arlington or the University of Texas at Arlington instead of UTA because it is confused with UT-Austin. UTA gives the university its own identity, while changing it to the others emphasize that it’s a UT System school. While UTA is part of the UT System, it is still a unique university.

Just point out that I have actually seen it :P

My school had the same problem. The University of Maine wanted to simply be known as "UM" (good luck with Big 10 schools Michigan and Minnesota out there) but everyone calls it UMO because it is in Orono. Most of us settled on "UMaine" and the other campus sites are UMA, UMM, UMF etc.

The "Movin' Mavericks"

Yuck! They used to be the Arlington State College Rebels. A division of the Texas A&M system. They gave up football in the 1980's. I got a few credits there from 1972-1977.

4. Vince Young,the heart,soul,lymphatic system,digestive tract,you name it,
of the Longhorns. This is his team, even moreso than Mack Brown's. This guy is just incredible.

At the start of spring training he taped a note to all his teammates's lockers saying "Be here at 7:30 if you want to beat Ohio State." They all showed up.

No Cedric "I'd rather win the Heisman than beat Oklahoma" Benson, that's for sure. After the Colorado game he said he'd either run the ball 100 times or throw it for 100,whatever it took to win the game.

No trash talker, after he heard that USC had pulled the ND game out in the last seconds he simply says,in words to this effect, "That''s good. They're who we want to play."

These are not the old choking Longhorns. They'll be in Pasadena and they have the talent to beat the Trojans.

I think they will win and so will a number of the nation's prognosticators come game time.

39. I agree, in a different way ...
Mack Brown has been the problem. I don't think he's a bad coach, but he hasn't been the right coach for the teams he's had. Based on what I've witnessed, I don't think he handles strong personalities well. One can accuse Cedric Benson of being an arrogant ass with his priorities all out of whack, but that still falls on the coach. It's the coach's job to modify that behavior or make the person sit on the bench indefinitely until he gets a clue while someone who cares about the team actually plays.

This really goes back to the Applewhite/Sims controversy for me. Brown handled that horribly. Sims was "the star" so Sims played, even when he sucked, even when Applewhite was known to work better in specific situations. Texas shouldn't be 1-5 against OU since 2000. Texas should have won two of those games, and I still don't understand how they didn't win one of them. But it was Brown's decisions that cost them.

Sorry to be a downer about that. I say all this as a life-long OU fan with a deep respect for Texas. (I want my team to face excellent opposition.) I think this year Texas is finally getting its due. It has been a much better team than the polls showed at the end of the year for the last several years.

And I think they can kick USC's ass.
